From what I've read on the BMS forum and iirc, Terry said that CARB certification mattered to them because it was how the auto industry was headed in the future and he believed parts manufacturers without this certification would not be able to compete. So that's why auto clear was removed, to satisfy the CARB regulations.

I think they stopped selling in Cali because of how strict their emissions are, but I don't think that will affect how they want to meet CARB regulations for the future.

That statement that CARB approval doesn't matter to them but they still want to be compliant by CARB rules makes little sense.

California is the only state in the union that has and will every have such stringent regulation on emissions, only because of something called States' Rights i.e. 'because we can'

If BMS eliminated selling in California, they can pretty much circumvent every other 49 stage emission rules by a "Off Road Use Only" disclaimer sticker on their products.

I'm just speculating here but if they stop selling Cali, there must be a more valid reason. I predict that they're just setting the stage to add back features that they were forced to eliminate in the first place, making their product less appealing and competitive.

if you want more information go read Terry's post on his forum where he outlines why he did it and why this is how BMS is moving forward. Auto code clearing was one feature, it really doesn't change how appealing the product was. The only reason why you would need code clearing was to clear down pipe codes and MAF codes which are related to emissions. So it would make sense to remove it because Emission laws apply to the entire USA, so this would make it more appealing to have it road legal and pass smog testing.

Also be aware that in addition to not fitting it generates CEL that cannot be cleared.

any new update for this? I've had one on order for a while but its been delayed and I presume it is because they are trying to fix all the issues mentioned previously.

Mike,

Will the "fix" be applicable to the first purchasers of this who were basically BMS's R&D team?

Thanks

Hi,
These questions are better asked to BMS direct.

Please be aware, this "fix" is not something BMS ever posted about.

I will never purchase anything from BMS again. They refused to acknowledge their mistake.
