IND | AutoTecknic DRY Carbon Mirror Covers (Version 2)
Here's the latest release from Autotecknic, drycarbon M-Inspired carbon mirror covers for the F87 M2. Other than the mounting clips, it's made of 100% carbon fiber which are lighter in weight and high tensile strength compared to their ABS plastic overlay version. Version II M-Inspired dry carbon mirror covers weigh only 121 grams VS the ABS plastic overlay at 239 grams each side, thats almost half the weight shaved! Dry carbon fiber's name also comes from its manufacturing process. Dry carbon fiber is formed by using a "pre-preg" or impregnated piece of carbon materials. This piece of carbon is first placed into a mold, and then into a sealed vacuum (autoclave) to properly cure. This particular method creates the least amount of waste and forms a lighter version of carbon than the wet method. The autoclave vacuuming process of making dry carbon means that there are fewer pinholes and virtually no air pockets that form in the carbon. Dry carbon is the highest quality version of carbon fiber products that are produced.

Knowing that the AutoTecknic previous ver.1 had some gap when fitted to the mirror, I am wondering if this version resolved that...?
I currently have BMW MP CF mirror caps installed, so also wondering if there is any problem replacing BMW M performance ones out to these pieces? Tabs on mirror that holds the clips of the cap need to be broken to fit screws and washers that are required to install BMW OEM CF mirror caps. Meaning that mirror will not have the tabs any more if that is the only way to hold AutoTechnic mirror cap and mirror together. BTW, stock mirror caps can revert back to the mirror even after losing the tabs after installing CF ones. Last edited by alscks0414; 06-15-2018 at 04:11 PM.. |

I received my set and installed them. The passenger side cap wouldn't fully engage with the clips and it was easy to pull off, so AT gave me a return shipping label and I sent back the one cap. They replaced it immediately and it fit like a charm. AT was a real pleasure to deal with. It's taking me a little while to get used to them because they are not subtle. Compared to the OEM caps, they are downright bulky. That being said, they really tie in well with the other gloss CF on the car and overall I'm really happy with the quality, fitment and finish. They have an aggressive look imo. |

Could you please confirm if this AutoTecknic Dry Carbon Mirror Covers (Version 2) requires stock existing 3 tabs to be there in order to fit into the mirrors? I have OE MP CF mirror caps installed currently which requires the tabs to be broken to fit the caps using screws and washers... Stock OE mirror caps can revert fit back without those tabs but wondering if AutoTecknic pieces can revert fit back? Last edited by alscks0414; 06-18-2018 at 10:15 AM.. |

We should start seeing some installed shots soon. Quite a few have shipped out already. Here are some photos comparing Version 1 to Version 2. We also took a version 2 set and added custom paint work.

You might think i'm nuts, but does the inside top point of the mirror cover line up with the point on the base plate on the window. I recall previous versions being slightly off-center and not mating up like they would on an M3/M4 or even the M2C.

I don't get it when retailers/manufacturers don't post their product on the car. Did you not test the product on a car before making it? Many times the fit and finish upon arrival indicates such.
They look awesome but why is the expectation of people alpha testing a $400 product okay? |

I will take a pic of the LBB partially painted caps once I get them fitted to my car. It will be after the 4th though.
