Question What's your favorite cheap cosmetic mod?

I started a thread like this over on my old M3 forum and it was a good one.

We all spent a bunch of money on these cars and some quite a bit on modifications.

With all the $ I have in the car, I still LOVE a cheap mod. I get a kick out of something inexpensive that really makes a difference.

Let's define "cheap" as anything between free and $50.

My vote would have to go to my red start\stop button.

https://www.x-ph.com/red-start-stop-...stop-function/

It really stands out on the interior and you touch it every time you're in the car. I've had a lot of compliments on it.

So what's your fav?

I think we just took the low hanging fruit. Now for the innovative stuff.

I would say the BMS clutch stop is an even lower hanging fruit

You didn't ask me but here are a few items that are important to me that I coded:

-deactivate ASD
-deactivate iDrive warning message at every start up
-deactivate headlight washer
-activate auto unlock when engine shuts off
-activate adaptive headlamps (the adaptive feature is dis-activated in US cars because DOT...)
-activate door handle led when in reverse gear

low cost mods

I have to agree that my red start/stop button is my #1 choice. However I only paid $8.59 for mine on e-bay.

Lbb in a spray can and a spray can of clear coat and a can of clear coat blender. All for under $50CN.
Removed front reflectors and made them body color for free. Now I have enough paint to fix any marks I happento get..... money in the bank.
Also bought a can of spray paint wheel color... no road rash expense for me...

Ordered vinyl test sheet for like $3 then applied it to rear red reflectors to make them dark. They still reflect red if light shines one them.

From red to black!

I loved the way my steering cover turned out. For $50 and a bit of elbow grease, totally transforms the steering wheel for me. The alternative being $300+ for an M Performance wheel, and none of them are wrapped the way I like. Nothing beats that.

For now, I like my reflectors the way they are. But I love little mods like these, cheap, able to do it by yourself, and doesn't look like it would be all that hard to go back to stock if you wanted.

That’s kind of kool. Is it hard to do? And is it perfect fit?

Just did mine. Using the corner of an expired credit card to pry out the unit is lot more easier since there's not much room.

Thanks! I did a bit of a review of it in this topic:

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...6&postcount=26

Overall, it takes a bit of time to do is all. Set apart a day to be patient and take your time. The fit is spot-on, you have the option of using tape to secure the leather, but the fit is so good, you don't need to use it and there's no play once it's done.

Link to the seller I used here:

I sent him a message through this listing:

I replaced the wheel center caps with black and white ones like these on eBay (or just search eBay for BMW center caps and pick your fave). They're a lot lighter (haven't dyno'd it but sure this is decreasing 1/4 mile time ), but the difference in quality is not noticeable on the car.

My car is AW and I've added carbon bits here and there, and replaced the gills with gloss black, so everything that was chrome is now black, and the wheel centers are now black and white instead of chrome, white and blue. Pretty subtle and easily missed but cheap as dirt.

Spray painted my toll transponder tag black. Now almost invisible from outside the car instead of having an ugly piece of white plastic stuck to the top/inside of the windscreen.

Also, removed the ugly airbag warning stickers from the back of the sun visors.

I went to Menard's and got 2 velcro loops with metal eyelets on them. hooked them to the screws in the middle of the trunk lid and made an umbrella/snow tool rack. so, the trunk floor is clear now
