I have been in the works of designing an upgraded turbo inlet pipe for our cars. This would be a full pipe replacement using machined fittings and silicon hose to replace the current plastic tube. It would also include a significantly larger opening at the turbo end and be completely smooth, removing the accordion section and dimples found in the oem pipe. I have already spent a bit of time and money to work out the logistics and now I need to find out if there is a desire for this as I would need to take pre-orders to make it happen. Please let me know by responding in the comments if you would be interested. Price point is currently unofficial but would likely be between $175 - $250.

Before this can move forward any further I would need at LEAST 30 solid commitments.

Also note: A final design will be released before actually accepting pre-orders. The purpose of this post is to gauge weather this is something worth investing more time and money into on my end.

Below is a list of people that appear interested. If your name is on the list and you are NOT likely to actually pre-order one contingent on final design / fitment, please PM me so I can remove you from the list.

Are there any performance gains to be expected?

Without having any data from m own product, using the pure inlet, on a tuned vehicle tuners have extracted up to 40 extra hp. In addition you can expect quicker spool and reduced PWM/duty cycle. This hose would also remove all obstructions such as the acordian piece at the top of the pipe and the dimples in the pipe which would increase air flow.

No. This would be an entire replacement for the stock pipe.

I'd be interested. Anything that materially makes the car breathe better is good by me.

It looks like we have 10-11 solid interests so far. If we can get more I think this will be a go. Really depends on the minimums required by the manufacturer. I'll give this another day or 2

On the phone, Pure told me that its inlet starts making sense at about 400 hp. The bigger the turbo and the more power you are aiming for, the more gains you'll get, at least up to a point. I doubt that you'll pick up 40hp on a stock M2 engine with a stock turbo. But it's not expensive, and it is a good preparation for power boosts in the future. No real downside to it. So I picked up Pure's complete unit at $275. Install was tight, but it's in now and working fine. I had it put in the same time the Dinan Stage 2 went in, so I have no real input to give on its effect as a stand-alone piece, unfortunately, even by butt dyno.

I'll qualify my "interested" comment that I'd purchase contingent on seeing fit and finish, etc.

Yes of course, I updated the original post to qualify that.

I have a designer working on it. However this stuff is expensive so to get proofs and production ready SLA files as well as a prototype is not going to be cheap. This is why I want to see if enough people are seriously interested before spending any more money on it. Once I know that enough people want one I will have a photo realistic representation made up as well as the final cad drawings to get a definite price from the manufacturer as well as a 3d printed prototype to confirm fitment.

If it is flow tested and compared to a flow test on the stock one, and it outperforms then I am in.
