Modified KW V3 Rears
My mechanic was saying the rears are too hard to height adjust when he installed them on my car. I don't understand how they are hard to adjust (I thought you can stick the spanner in there to twist the perches, but I guess not) he was saying you have to remove some stuff to access it, or that the perch spins on itself preventing adjustment. I don't know. I don't get it. He said he called KW and they said that's how they are supposed to work.
Anyway, he ended up cutting a slot in the bottom of the perch so you can adjust them with a long screwdriver through the control arm. Here are some pics if anyone is interested. |

Either way, the rear springs would still have the same issue and need a mod like this. |

No, that's the whole point - they wouldn't. With the weight off the wheels, the load exerted by the helper spring is minimal, making adjustment much, much easier.
To be clear though, I think your mechanic is incompetent. |

What makes you think he's incompetent? Other people have the same adjustment issue with the KW's. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1126627 |

Well:
1. His approach to adjusting your springs apparently requires an angle grinder, rather than just the c-spanner provided by KW. 2. The adjuster should be all the way up against the top cap as a starting point - not just about to unwind off the bottom. 3. The helper springs and associated hardware should be at the top. HTH. 2. Not sure what you're talking about, but the collar in the rear is set about half of it's length. It's not barely hanging on. The car is also corner balanced, which I was there for and have pictures of the scales to see it's all correct. 3. I'm not sure it matters where they are located, but when you order the KW's, the helper springs come at the bottom out of the box. They are also at the bottom in all KW pictures, videos, as well as shown at the bottom in the installation instructions. You were making questionable remarks on my sway bar issue as well. Are you sure you know anything about suspension? |

Not offensive, just ignorant. Which is fine, we can't all know everything about everything.

I don't recall asking for advice or having an issue here haha. I posted a solution to a known issue. This convo is getting so out of hand and I don't understand why or really want anything to do with it.

Okay, so looking once more at the angle grinder cuts in your brand new KW V3s: You were asking for confirmation that everyone else had done the same, or?
Whatever your issue, I sincerely hope you are able to resolve it. |

The swaybar issue I had, I can see why no one talked about it though... I don't think many people are running the Dinan/KW combo like I am. Glad I could be the guinea pig to help future people though. (trying to secure my place in heaven) |

The helper can be at the top or bottom, it doesn't really matter. We have our quick spring change kit and have always installed and recommended the helpers installed at the bottom, on the control arm side. That way it's easier to overcome the helper to get the main spring out for a quick change. |
