The F80 M3s run these sizes and use the same offsets so it would be a simple test for you to find someone with an M3 and just try these out on the M2. The car has enough torque for the slightly larger diameter and slightly heavier tire but my educated guess is that you really won't gain much since what makes the M2 special is the balance the M guys put into the car. Changing the tire sizes will probably upset that balance everyone raves about.
I'm running 255 and 275/40/18 on stock suspension with no issues!
On a 1M? Or M2?

Thanks

That's cool. Better ride right? What about handling, turn in and power delivery with the bigger circumference. Can you give us your thoughts of this versus the stock 19s please?

I did the upgrade on the weekend... replacing worn out Contis. Too early to comment as I have t been for a proper drive.

Did notice that at 100km/h I'm actually travelling 99km/h now. In 245/265 combo it was 98km/h.

Rides a bit higher, less scraping, turn in is not changed much, the ride comfort is much better (car is still stiff but potholes are a lot more absorbed), and the rears hook much better now! There's a lot less traction control interference but I can still have fun.

I had similar experience with 18s on my 1M. I didn't increase the circumference, went stock 18 sizes but everything was better except for ever so slightly slower turn in. The car was upset less by road imperfections. Yes 19s look great, but for go, 18s rule on the road. Thank you for your thoughts.

Honestly, I love the look of 513M's more than the stock 437M's!

I agree. One of the best looking and cool wheels bmw has ever made sadly overlooked by many. I would love a set but wrong offset for 1M and the style fits better with the angular design of the newer BMWs. But function guys see the beauty in the function of a super lightweight, strong original looking wheel that makes for a better driving experience on less than perfect roads

I am a big fan of BMW OE M wheels. I hit so many of the craters they generously call potholes in the NJ/NY metro area with my Z4M and never damaged a wheel. I'm not sure that is a forged wheel either, though I never checked.

Strangely enough, I have known a number of people with standard series BMWs having multiple bent or cracked wheels in the same period of time. I wonder if BMW specifies them differently? Could be just luck, though.

My neighbor is still on original E46 ZCP wheels too.

I am leaning towards going the 255/275 route on oem wheels. Are there any downsides to going this route aside from a 1% rolling diameter variance?

I am more so curious as to why BMW didn't offer this standard as they are same wheel sizes and offsets as on the standard M3/4 and assume it would have been easier to carry over the same sizing. Just wondering the rationale they used for determining this and if it is something I should be concerned about.

The M2 doesn't have as much power as the M3/M4 so it can get away with 265s in the back.

I think I'm definitely going to 255/275 when I need tires if for no other reason then I prefer a more squared-up sidewall.

Thanks for the info. I do remember that thread a while back but forgot about it when I was posting.

I am heavily leaning in that direction as well (255/275). I just wanted to ensure no real downsides to going wider, even if just by 10 mm.

Sounds like no rubbing. I can use the pothole cushioning doing a lot of city driving. Doesn't appear to be significant of a change though to really alter appearance either by much.

Since 275/30/19/F and 295/30/19/R would have zero impact on ABS or DSC operations, as it's the only non-OEM size combination where F:R ratio is identical to stock, the rep may not have said anything.

Edit: I bought the tyres online and one of the approved fitting stations was a local BMW dealer though not the one I bought the car from. When I picked up the car the service rep said you do know these are bigger than standard and I said yes, I ordered them that size. No other comment.

The invoice has written:

"TYRES FITTED TO VEHICLE LARGER THAN ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED. ****** BMW CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DEVIATIONS IN DISPLAYED SPEED, ABS, OR DSC OPERATION."

Arse covering much. Wonder what they would have done if I went 275/30 and 295/30 as others on here have done?

Anyone running 275/30/29 and 295/30/19 on stock wheels and suspension? Since there is little variance this might be the route I take instead of 255/35/19 and 275/35/19

Seems that Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is temporary unavailable in 265/35 R19 size: see this thread. No idea why.

245/35 R19 still available ...as well as 255/35 R19 and 275/35 R19.

I has this same issue with the tirerack. I ended up using direct tire since they had it in stock.

M2C - 275/35/19 ok on the rear?

Hey guys,

Was wondering if it's ok to move up to a 275 rear from the standard 265?

Reason being is I want to for the MP4s in lieu of the MPSS.

Any disadvantages to moving up this small amount?

Thanks in advance.

You should have no problem with 275 in the rear. It's fairly common for people to switch up to 275 rear and 255 front to get a bit more traction once the stock tires get worn out.

Yes it will fit. I'm lowered less than an inch with 255/275
