It's only included for the first three years. You have to pay after that.

Full screen CarPlay looks so neat, not to mention the Waze app with its active 'cop-spotter' in realtime, pays for itself..
However, it seems a little redundant since the vehicle already has such a well-engineered BMW iDrive interface, just two clicks away.. You obviously have to forgo one to use the other.. #FirstWorldProblems |

I can confirm the grey box when trying to code CarPlay for widescreen using BimmerCode:
Hu_nbt> 3000hmi> carplay_fullscreen I would rather just pay someone for the rest of the settings so I can do the coding myself. I have a 2019 M550i with a CarPlay subscription and I only want to enable widescreen. I have version P firmware since my car was build in December 2018. If it is more involved than that, then I'm not sure I want to mess with it. In other words, I don't want my car's signature to change. My preference is to do all of the coding through BimmerCode in Expert Mode. So... Is this even possible? I don't want to run into warranty issues or having my stuff overwritten if BMW does a firmware update. if it's done with BimmerCode then I easily put it right back. I don't mind paying for the work, I just want to be able to add/remove it on my own w/o a remote coding session each time. Thanks, David |

There is file in the head-unit software called carplay.ini that needs to be edited to change the usable resolution to the full width, as well as modifying the icon layout (5x2 instead of 4x2). How this is done is by altering the file and then uploading the revised data through a back-channel that allows for map updates VIA USB drive. If done properly, it would not be detected by BMW. However, if they update your software for any reason, it would wipe out the revised file and revert it back to split-screen and you would have to upload the full screen file again. |

It was the same deal back in the E92 days with the "DVD in Motion" lockout. Some vendors use to sell an unlocked file for $175 to remove the speed restriction. I bought it and reverse-engineered the process. Basically, you had to extract the .INI file, alter the parameters containing the handbrake lockout and upload the revised file VIA a CD or USB, to the iDrive module. Voila! You could of now watched a DVD copy of hardcore porn, on your iDrive, while cruising down the expressway. Hypothetically speaking, of course.. BTW, new BMW (P versions, I believe) do have full screen CarPlay enabled from the factory. |

Negative; New M2C 12/18 build has P software and full screen is not available.

The new 5-series has widescreen CarPlay by default. Could be wrong but might an ID7 feature. |

I haven't been digging into new iDrive software to notice the changes, I was just assuming it's full screen now, since some members have reported this as such. How the new software effects this hack, I'm not sure of that either.. |

If not - will just need an esys cable instead of a USB thumb drive. Best to check with wibbles if the coding support from him carries over. |

I have been looking for a thread that discusses AppleCar Play and/or Drive Analyzer for the M2. Does anyone have any info or know of a thread I can go to?

After driving cars that offered USB only CarPlay I can say that wiress is far superior. It's a hassle having to plug/unplug your car every time you get in and out of the car. Why on earth would you prefer wired?

And if you are not on the latest iPhone, AND you install the latest iOS operating system, your phone is too slow and you need an upgrade. Carplay is just a view of the phone on the screen. It is not car-based. |

As a person that has an iPod permanently connected to USB and CarPlay via WiFi the difference in audio quality between the sources is nearly imperceptible on the HK system

Full screen Carplay
Has anyone with an OG or LCI successfully upgraded to full screen Carplay?
I've seen this thread going in the Competition subforum and others like it elsewhere on the web where you can upgrade your Apple Carplay to full screen by having your iSTA software updated to NBTevo_N, O or P and then having the Carplay ini file modified either through eSys or by a 3rd party. I hear they're charging $100-$200 on average to do it remotely. To check if you have the correct iSTA update: Go to the map screen, press the options button on the idrive controller, select Navigation Settings > Position and Version > Version Information. If it says NBTevo_N, O or P + some numbers, for example NBTevo_O18153l - then you can get the update. I'd love to figure out a way to do this without having to pay a 3rd party by using Bimmercode or some other method.
