BBS CI-R as 763M Alternative

Has anyone used the BBS CI-R as a cheap alternative to the 763M wheels?

Upsides:
1/2 inch wider front and rear 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 offsets +25 and +35.
Price is cheaper 2k a set vs 3k a set
Grey option available, not available on 19" 763M

Downsides:
Heavy - 26.5 and 25.9 lbs and non OEM

haha. that's why im staying stock for now.

seriously though if your throwing down more than 2k on wheels i dont want them to only look a little nicer. I'm gonna "weight" to see if any other wheels eventually come out. but im fine with the stock wheels, they are unique, kind of modern versions of csl wheels and not too heavy.

Have a look at Volk Racing G16...fully forged and beautifully made by Rays. Price is also affordable.

Those Volk G16s look nice. Front offset is a little aggressive if you’re running a 9.5” front on a lowered car.

If these are for the track and less concerned about looks, VMR V710FF has great 9.5/10.5 offsets, and are cheaper & lighter than the CI-Rs.

VMR's belong on a 10 year old 1 series, not a new M2C in my opinion. Might as well get Frogstars.

Track use. Find me another wheel set that will allow you to fit 275/30 & 305/30/19s on a lowered M2.

No idea, don't run staggered wheel setups but there are plenty of wheel companies that can build custom setups for track work like Forgeline, Finspeed and CCW

The VMR set is less than $1500.

Tough to beat that for a track wheelset that gets the most rubber possible under the car.

Unless you do it for track, never bother buying anything less than 5k a set for stock replacement. Stock is that good.

True at that price it's hard to beat but they should be cheap for soft cast wheels.

They’re flow formed, just like Apex.

Next issue?

Might be the same process but I've seen way more bent VMR wheels than Apex track wheels....

Either way, off topic and I don't care. I won't use VMR. I bought a set of 763M performance wheels.

I’ve bent an Apex wheel, so flow formed has it’s shortcomings but replacing a FF wheel every now and then is way cheaper than replacing forged wheels, which are still going to get their finishes messed up at the track anyways. That’s OK, you won’t see my VMR’s for long when I’m putting more power to the ground with my 305s in the back.

In all seriousness, Apex has their new 19x9.5 & 19x10.5 EC-7s coming out in July (too late for this yr’s track season), and they say a 305/30 will fit in the back with no fender mods. Seeing how tight 305s are on ET45 in the rear, I’m skeptical that their ET40 will work on a lowered M2 without more than necessary rear camber (> -2.0deg).

Apex has EC7 now, a little bit heavier (not much) and 1100 shipped a set with the group buy. I wish I just kept my stock wheels and picked up a set of those instead of getting 763M for about 1200 in upgrade cost

The interesting thing is the original group buy was for ET40 19x10.5 in the rear. Based on my fitment testing that was not going to work on a lowered M2 running 305s. 295s maybe.

Apex posted a thread for the group buy a cpl weeks ago, I made that comment, and then they deleted the thread. Now the group buy has an ET45 for the rear!

Good on them to take feedback and make adjustments. EC-7s are a classic track wheel on BMWs and is what I ran as my 18” square setup, so they’ll probably be my next set if I need another over the VMRs.

Yep I have a set of 18x10 ET25 EC7s in my garage that now don't fit my M2C.
