BBS FI-R or HRE R101 LW?

Which do you think is better looking on the M2? Aesthetic choice only, imagine they were the same price and same weight.

I know they are visually very similar, but I prefer the FI-R because the spokes are a bit thicker, and they are less busy, but I love the 101 as well.

Having had several sets on R101LW's on different cars, I much prefer the HRE's!!! I love the BBS wheels, but they aren't as light, as strong, or fit as well as the HRE's. Aesthetics are subjective, but build quality isn't and the HRE's are superior wheels.

I am a BBS fan. Though the HREs look great also. Can’t really go wrong with either choice.

ppffff.....I enjoy a set of HRE's, and I've had a few sets, but no doubt about it, FI-R's look way better than R101LW's. I'm on my 4th set of FI-R's so it's a no brainer.

I think the FI-R is the winner. It looks exotic in comparison. However personally i think the Apex VS-5RS are better looking than the HREs.

I too like the VS-5RS, especially where the 5 center spokes split into 10, as the joint almost looks like knuckle bones there. I also like the deep scallops on the sides of the spokes.

BBS for me and as far as looks go I actually think the BBS would look even better without the in spoke holes. But I do think they are cool and weight savings and all but aesthetically speaking here.

I have to say, IRL the spokes of the FI-R are so thick, I never really noticed it that much in pictures, they just look cool, but IRL they are stupid thick. If they made the exact same wheel without the holes I think I'd like it even better because the spoke wouldn't be as thick, but I don't think it would fit the design of the car as well (oddly).

So let me get this straight.....First the BC's KL11, then the 763, onto the FI-R, and now you start a thread looking at the R101's. You're playing Pokémon with all the 5Y spoke wheels.

With that said I Prefer R101's in person to FI-R's although I've never seen them on an M2.

Stock wheels
Ferric 437M
763M in custom grey
763M refinished in a different custom grey
KL11's
FI-R's

And I've been looking at the P101 for a long time, but decided against it in favor of the FI-R, I only started the thread to see how many people preferred the FI-R to the 101.

Lmao at least you have good taste. These HRE are a lot lighter than I initially thought. Honestly, knowing that as well, you can't really go wrong with either of these wheels.

They’re called “LW” for a reason. They’re the strongest, lightest true race wheel on the market for a street car. I’ve had 3 Sets on my Porsche’s and they look killer on those cars. I had a set of P101’s on one of my Mclaren’s, and they too look killer on those cars as well. I love me some BBS wheels, as they’re the manufacturer of Porsche factory wheels, as well as other brands… they make incredible quality, and atheistically pleasing wheels, but for no amount of money will you find a better wheel than an HRE R101LW wheel set.

I'd go FI-R out of these 2. I agree with those here that prefer undrilled spokes. We installed RI-D on the M2 in order to remain solid and lightweight.

The old pinch-weld style lip left the RI-D out for me, but it's a nice wheel for sure.

How does one go about measuring or finding measurements of how strong a wheel is?

You'd probably need to get that info from a wheel manufacturer.

As far as these two they will be stronger and better than stock for sure both fully forged with premium grade alloy. If your looking at the cheaper cast wheels more of a challenge to avoid a poorly made or poorly designed wheel and sticking to known brands safer

In anycase BBS and HRE are well known and premium brands and the F1-R and 101LW are their premium products, I am not sure if you might get lighter and stronger you might get stronger but of no value unless you are doing something else with the car than driving on tarmac ?

It somewhat depends on wheel design as well. Forged aluminum is stronger than the lighter magnesium, but because of its design, the RE-MG that came on the Mines Skyline will be stronger than the FI-R. Unfortunately, it's also heavier.

BBS RE-MG: 18 x 10.2 = 18 lbs
BBS FI-R: 19 x 10.5 = 17.5 lbs
