Brief impression after first extended drive - AW M2C w/ DCT
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com My initial impressions after taking it up on some twisty roads with good weather...simply amazing. The power delivery is strong without any mid-rpm drops and feels very linear. I think the car would benefit from a slightly wider contact patch (maybe 265F/285R width) but this could just be the new tires still being in their break-in period where the compound lubricant/oils during manufacturing are still making their way to the surface. The DCT is a monster in S3 with the engine mapping in Sport Plus. I don't know if BMW did any changes since the LCI M2, but from my test drives of the 2018, the 2019 M2C feels much more aggressive. Prior to deciding to purchase this car, I was considering the Cayman S and I honestly would say it's up there in terms of shift speed and clutch clamping pressure. Handling aspect has been covered numerous times before and I don't believe there are any changes from earlier years, but in general I think the suspension damping is spot on. Firm but does not crash over any larger imperfections in the road surface, manhole cover valleys, etc. The sound is the best thing about the car...loud and mean when you feel like giving it a good thrashing around some empty winding roads, but quiet in Efficient mode around town so you're not waking the neighbors as you pull into the driveway. There is no escaping the loud start-up from cold though. The Harman Kardon audio system sounds good to me, decently good low end frequency response. I dislike systems with under powered subwoofers or with high cross-over frequencies and this one is good enough to my ears that I'm happy with it. Some miscellaneous items...I installed a BlackVue DR900-S dashcam and Escort Max 360 radar detector using a Blend Mount. The fit tolerance is very small and GPS reception on these devices can be an issue in certain areas where the signal is weaker. For anyone doing a mirror tap for power, use a credit card to pry open the two halves of the rear-view mirror cover and be patient. There are multiple clips holding the two pieces together and it's potentially very easy to break these off. Some pics I took while up at Hawk's Nest. |

I haven't coded anything out, so I do have ASD. Personally, I don't have any issue with it inside the cabin but I have heard my own car from the outside with someone else driving and it sounds great; same with windows down and when revving while stopped. There was another video posted to these forums recently that I believe captured the exhaust sound much more accurately then the other online videos I've seen to date. In the other videos, it almost sounds like a rattling coffee can. Last edited by plastus; 09-15-2018 at 09:53 PM.. |

+1 I'm with you. I absolutely love the sound of the car. As a number of folks have pointed out on this forum who've owned the M3 or M4, and now have the M2C, BMW did something to change the sound of the S55 such that most folks have indicated they're quite pleased with the way it sounds. Carl44 had OG M2 and now has M2C and indicated it's quite a bit louder. |

Due to tighter EU emissions regulations (EURO 6d-TEMP) that took force this Summer, the exhaust on the EURO-spec M2C features an Otto Particulate Filter. A side-effect of the OPF: it alters/tames the exhaust sound. Test drives by journalists at the Ascari race track: EURO-spec M2C.
