2018 M2 DCT sluggish from reverse to 1st?
Hey guys, been spending a few days with the M2 as I think I'm going to buy one. Wondering if this is an issue with just the M2 I'm driving or the DCT in all M2s... when you shift into reverse and hit the throttle, there's a huge lag before it actually revs up and moves. Same if you're in reverse and switch to 1st, you have to wait like a full second before pressing the throttle or it just doesn't register/rev/go anywhere.
Is this delay normal? Pretty annoying actually, especially if making a 3-point turn. |

Reverse takes a bit to switch over to. For me, it happens when I go from park to drive it takes a bit to switch over and there's a bit of lag and it jumps. For three point turns it's usually not an issue, but sometimes it can be.

And if he gets it in 'Hockenheim Silver Metallic', it will be a metaphoric "silver bullet".

I have actually mashed the gas too hard in reverse because it was laggy and then it spins the tires lol. Maybe I drank the koolaid but I consider it a charming character of the DCT. I dunno I feel like either way it probably won't make or break your decision on the M2. |

I typically wait to move the car over to Sport+ until the car is warm. |

I have the same issue with my 2018, but most mornings since I took delivery it's been below 20 degrees. It's much better once the transmission warms up after a few minutes of driving.

Anyway I see this comfort thing asked a lot. The reason behind it is emissions. That's why the throttle pedal is so dull as well. Comfort mode is engineered to optimize the EPA drive cycle for emissions and fuel economy testing so they can put a nice number on the sticker / also not harm their CAFE quota. (CAFE is US fleet gas economy standards, manufacturers have to reach a certain level of fuel efficiency). Anyway in order for them to be able to use this mode as the testing mode the car has to default to it on Startup. That's why we can't have the car to start in sport. Pretty sure the same thing applies in Europe. |

Not sure if the DCT is like VAG DSG, but if so...
They put 1 and R on different gearshafts, so that should help with shift speed. However, if you're in 1 and moving, the car is going to want to preselect 2. If you then put it in reverse, it has to get out of 2, and then grab R before it can engage the clutch and get you moving. It's just one of the unfortunate disadvantages of the predictive logic and engineering choice of where to put R on a dual-clutch gearbox.

As for M4GTS flash, I wasn’t aware we can do that for the M2. Has anyone actually tried this? |
