Join the line of especially non-enthusiasts who can't comprehend the different "changes" that BMW attaches to "Competition" versions for the various cars in recent years. There is no one definition of "Competition"...it is what it is on a case by case basis. BMW tried recently to "clarify" all that, but most likely that will change to for the next generation of cars, lol.

Well, the comp is down to $42k and the OG is firm on 44k. I would not modify the comp, but need to add exhaust plus some other items to the OG which then starts to put the cost closer to $48k into the car. My original goal was to stay under $40k since this is a 4th car and daily driver for errands so I don’t want too much sunk into it.
For $48k I’d invest into a low miles comp bs the OG. I’ll lowball the comp, if they won’t budge then I’ll just be patient. What I really want is a black 35k mile OG stick with Dinan exhaust for $38k. But 99% of OG on the market are LBB or White DCT 😞 so I’ll have to stay patient I guess.

The change was due to European smog regulation where the N55 no longer passed the regulations.

Neither one of those are an M car, as there is no oil dipstick. All real M cars have an oil dipstick.

id go for the OG, I've owned an OG for 3 years and now a comp for 6 months
I miss the OG. I have a track day booked in the comp in March after that i'll probably sell up and get back into an OG, it will probably cost me at least 6k all this car swapping But i love OG |

I once bought a unicorn E46 touring with 60K for a daily and swore I would never again buy a used car with more than 10K miles. My last two used BMWs were 3K and 9K. |

if I had $1 for every comp vs og there has even been posted and another dollar for the og is not a real M car or the comp exhaust sounds like a lawn mower Id have at least enough money to buy a g87 (and if we add the g87 sucks compared to the f87 I probably could now afford a GT4). Enough is enough.
I think the comp at 42k is a fantastic deal and probably what I would go for, I would not be scared of the miles and thats just a lot of car for 42k. |

Obviously they are similar in a lot of ways
And id say the M2C handles slightly better But i much prefer the n55 The s55 is a powerhouse The N55 is more fun, with a relatively small single turbo, it comes in earlier Which is better in the real world, the s55 has more power at the top of the revs i appreciate the majority prefer but it only really comes into play in the higher gears 3 and up, where the s55 has a clear advantage over the n55, and at that speed your going way over the speed limit Id go for the S55 if you want to make bigger power Or the smug satisfaction that you are in a comp with the "proper" M engine If you want more smiles per mile, and are going to leave standard like OP OG everyday The OG sounds soo soo much better I think this a massive factor, like why so many people love v10s and v12s, the sound I turned so many heads in OG, the comp not so much I wouldn't be surprised if the OG went the way of the 1M in 10 years time, a modern classic Last edited by timchump; 02-28-2024 at 11:05 AM.. |

I disagree, the single turbo in the n55 will always spool quicker than the twins in the s55 no matter what tune you put on it Also the OP said they would keep it standard. Sound maybe subjective, but subjectively 99% of people think the n55 sounds better. I’d love the comp to be better in every way than The OG, I own a Comp and sold an OG, but my experience is it’s not . Last edited by timchump; 02-28-2024 at 12:49 PM.. |

I'll have to strongly disagree. A stage one tune on an S55 will net over 500 ft lbs of torque while the OG puts out about 343 ft lbs of torque. We all know that torque is what slams you back in the seat. Don't forget that a tune doesn't only affect power but how it is delivered. Also twin turbos are designed to spool faster than a single turbo. Have you ever driven a 6MT M2c with a stage one tune?

I know I won’t convince you and im not trying to
Of course your M2 comp is better. I’m not talking about max torque I’m talking about how early in the rev range it’s being delivered If you don’t understand higher power turbos take longer to spool then I can’t help you There millions of videos and threads about it I prefer the quick spooling lower powered turbo on OG M2 Over the slower spooling higher powered turbos on the Comp I own an M2 comp and I have owned an OG M2 I prefer the OG overall, just my opinion to the OPs post My Last post in this thread.
