Efficient Dynamics recharging battery

When coasting it shows battery being recharged. Isn't the battery being recharged constantly, coasting or not? The alternator doesn't disconnect from the engine, right? Gimmick?

No, it doesn't disconnect but the charging current is regulated by the DME.
