Looking for advice

I am shopping for either an 2018 M2 LCI or an 2019 M2C (used). IMO the M2C is a far superior car, the seats and S55 engine being the main selling points for me. From a financial perspective, the M2c price difference is between 10-12K higher. Looking for advice from M2C owners who has driven or owned an 2018 LCI.

Thanks.

My advise is to drive both cars and make your own decision. Anything anyone tells you here will just be opinion. Only you can decide what is important to you in a vehicle.

Why mess with an '18? I'd go new m2c or a minty '16 at a great pice. I suspect there are amazing deals on the '16-'17 models.

This thread is going to turn into another OG M2 vs M2C thread and why each owner thinks the other car sucks....

I'll entertain it anyway and say that this should be an easy answer.

If the improvements of the M2C are worth the extra $10,000-$12,000, I would say get the M2C. Only you can decide if that's worth it to you, everyone's opinion including my own will be subjective and nothing more. At best, the objective truth is that the M2C is "better," but maybe not for your situation. If you don't want to or can't financially justify the increased cost, the OG M2 is nothing to sneeze at and offers great value now.

Personally, I never pulled the trigger on the OG M2 because of several factors. For example, I didn't like the fact that the interior was basically the same as the regular 2 series, the mirrors were the same as a regular 2 series and the N55 wasn't a true M designed engine.... it didn't feel 100% right.

Enter the M2C. When the M2C was announced, I no longer had that feeling that something was missing. It had improved upon all of the OG M2s downfalls. My 2020MY arrives in two weeks.

Based on your post it sounds like you’d much prefer the M2C. Sure, you might be able to get the LCI for $10k less but if you’re “settling” for it than it’s not worth it. If you buy an LCI will you still pine for the comp? Wish you spent a little more for what you really wanted?

I’ve been in a similar situation before and I ended up trading cars after a year and lost more $ than if I had just bought the car I wanted in the first place.

It's still a regular 2 series interior virtually identical to an OG M2 LCI with the exception of the seats.

If your tracking the car OG M2 seats are better because you can use a Shroth Quick Fit Pro setup, the M2C fixed headrests don't allow this.

ED (built to my spec and first ever "NEW" car) and Closed deck block did it for me.

Side note: Harness without hans = neck yoyo.

OG M2 is a slammin deal at the moment though. Plus you can fit 18's.......

As stupid as it may seem, at least the seats give it that special character that reminds you it's an M car. Ultimately all M cars are the derivatives of the "regular" cars anyway. With the OG M2, it's like they didn't even try though.

The seats are the most noticeable thing someone experiences as you first get into the car, and then it's the steering wheel, and then the dash, IMO.

You can run a HANS with the Schroth Quick Fit Pro.

That is good news.

It also puts you on the precipice of the rabbit hole between street car and race car as you may as well get a HR seat to go with it (was a passenger and hit an armco at 70 3 weeks ago in a non HR seat and it HURT with full 6pt harness hans etc). At that stage you will be crushed in a fixed seat without a cage etc etc. sorry I'm rambling

Without going down the rabbit hole of safety, you are held properly into the seat which makes driving fast significantly less fatiguing and improves your connection to the car.

We all have different reasons why we make these decisions, Its really up to you (OP) to decide.

I had an M235xi and I was running a quick fit harness with 17inch track wheels with RE-71r tires.

I did not want the M2C for the following reasons:

- I wanted to be able to continue using a quick fit harness, this is huge when you track often, without it you get tired and sore so much faster, it really helps to concentrate on driving instead of getting banged left and right.

- I wanted to be able to run 18inch wheels if I ever want to

- I wanted to get a 15k (CAD)deal on an LCI standing on the lot for 6+ months just before winter instead of paying msrp for the M2C

- I felt like the power, sound and simplicity of the N55 was enaugh for my needs and easy to mod later down the road.
