If you remove the rear seats but don't install any kind of cage or arc bars, will it negatively affect handling? Do the rear seats add some rigidity, almost like a sway bar, since they span the car?
Your over thinking this mod. Just DO IT!!!!!

It doesn't. There is too much play in the hinges and mounts to make the seat a solid brace, combined with the seat not even touching the side walls of the car.

How do you actually remove the seatbacks? The bottom cushions were easy to remove. I then folded down the seatbacks but couldn't find the torx screws that have been mentioned.

Thanks!

This thread has some videos that helped me. I remember I had to pull really hard to get the driver's side out of the hinge.

Thank you. So those side bolsters need to come out to get access to the torx screws for the actual rear seatbacks?

I went with this carpet/net option:

https://sternperformance.de/en/

And this Cross Brace:

https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/...item/10000858/

Very OEM looking when all installed. Carpet is perfect fit

Sweet thank a lot. I need a seat first (leaning towards the Cobra Nogaro as im a smaller guy). Last trackday the car fishtailed on me and shot me against the doorcard. I had one cheeck in the seat and the other on a bolster while I tried to catch a drift

Edit the net/carpet link takes me to the homepage. I think its the same as what trackparts.ch offers.

Here's the M2 link https://sternperformance.de/en/186-bmw-m2-competition

When I move to a fixed back seat I'll be going with these:

https://www.sparcousa.com/product/qrt-c

The Carbon ones are $1195

14.2 lbs per seat! The Fiberglass ones are only 17.2 lbs

A huge weight savings vs the OEM's and I can get proper Schroth Belts installed.

Thoose look good and at 1.2k for CF are a great deal. I want something a bit OEM+ with some daily ability

Will have to see how they turn out in your car.

You noticed the same as I did. That's a fantastic price point for a 14 lb carbon fiber seat. In my case when I install the seats and belts the car will start going over to the dark side (more track oriented than street).

The end of my build are seats, belts & a 1/2 cage.

I wouldn't necessarily consider the Nogaro as a small frame seat. Definitely sit in them before purchasing.

I sat in them, seemed fine and the shoulder belts were at the limit of the acceptable range (I want a rollbar and HANS to go with the seat and 4+ point belt).

The holes sadly are a bit too high to sit in the seat without (or with a thinner) cushion. Without the cushion you sit quite deep almost like a normal bucket.

The idea was to have a track and road insert that I could swap between them.

I might try and find a Recaro as they are quite available over in Germany.

Check out Sparco QRT. The "performance" one is a leather / alcantara combo. How tall are you?

Also strongly recommend BK mounts and reuse the power OEM sliders.

You have to look behind the side cushions. Torx 50 is the tool you'll need.
