G87 should to come with CF roof, M3/M4 seats. Maybe we can hope for even the carbon fiber buckets as an option? Focus on remaining more light on its feet.

I hope the info in the above blog comes true.
- Prefer it old school with less tech (driver assist features in specific)
- DCT as an option
- Regular grills

Not getting my hopes up for any BMW because of how all new models have been... but they better not mess up the m2. it's looking likely it might not have the hideous long m3/m4 grill.

Yeah, man!!! You and me both!!!

G87 M2 is my next car.

When the time comes, let's hold hands and click the order button at the same time together, okay?

In fact, I want us to have matching configurations too. Pinky promise?

As far as I'm aware, the 1 series platform is only currently made in a FWD configuration (it's not sold here in the US so my knowledge of the current generation is limited).

You can't just make a FWD car AWD if the chassis was not originally designed to configure it.

My family had the 2014 CLA45, and was actually queued to have the first CA delivered 2020 until it hit significant delays, so I am very familiar with that style of car and I enjoyed it a lot (except for the awful transmission programming, low speed engagement of the dual clutch was terrible and jerky).

But the 1 series platform isn't built to be AWD and BMW would never redesign the entire platform just for a performance model unless that design was at least partially incorporated into the original FWD model. The floor, rear suspension pick up points, firewall, rear "frame rails" etc. are all totally different on a modular platform compared to a FWD only one.

At that point it would be cheaper to make a 2 series chassis into a hot hatch. At least the 2 series could more easily be made into AWD.

I'm concerned. I've become very picky when it comes to the character of an engine. The detuned state of the s55 in the m2c I don't like. I can feel where it stops making more HP around 5.5k rpm and the power is just flat. The m3c and m2cs state of tune seems much better if you're the type to want to rev an engine out. I'm worried that detuned state of the s58 will be similar to the m2c and not reward for taking it to the top of the rev range.

Regarding the possibility of an awd M version of the 1 series. Here's a link or 2 for those those that seem to be under the illusion that there is no Xdrive AWD 1 series...
Yes in the US you may not get it ? (you don't get a lot of the good stuff actually) but shock horror! there's actually a whole world outside the US and some are even on this site. So please understand that just because your not aware of something doesn't mean it's non existent.

That's a legitimate concern and the surprisedly lower torque numbers (relative the upwards motor trend) is kind of discouraging.

However, if it means I can beat on it, banging gears and revving out to the redline like a Honda, until it run out of gas, without having to worry about the infamous S55 crank hub issue, then I'll take the good with the bad.

Like all new M cars, the G87 M2 will lose some character but may improve in other areas. This is just by looking at the BMW line up these days as compared to the past.

I don't really agree with this actually. I personally feel like outside the F87, the F generations are not the absolute best, whether we're talking about interior quality, engine sound, integration of EPS especially on non M models ect ect... The G05 in your garage for example, is such a huge leap forward compared to an F15 IMO.

Looking at the new M3/4, we can expect an improved/sharper steering system, monster engine that can be paired with 6MT that to me sounds better than the S55 from factory, significantly nicer interior. From the reviews, I haven't seen too many people mention the weight affecting the handling of the car. If anything, it seems the car has way more grip and puts down power very well.

Apart from losing DCT, which is not relevant for me, I think the future looks really bright for the G87. I'm really excited, and will probably get one after LCI as it'll most likely be my last pure ICE car.

Personally I really hate the computer game instrument panel. I much prefer analog. The G87 might be a great end to an era or it might be too big and heavy for the M2 enthusiast type. We just don't know yet what the specs will be.
