255 & 275-285 4S & 71R on the stock rims is definitely the easiest & cheapest way to go for initial track outings with the M2.

After that opens up the suspension, wheel, tire setup & sizing rabbit hole that each of us have a little different take on depending on our goals.

And, I think NJMP Thunderbolt is a very fun underrated track. Haven’t made it to Lime Rock, yet, but it’s on the list.

EDIT: As others have said 71R is no longer an option. I really only liked it as a winter/rain track tire anyways. 4S is good to learn on and find the limits of the car, it’ll just overheat when you start pushing it.

The goal should always be achieving the fastest lap times possible if we're not chasing track records we're doing it wrong.

Hahah, I subscribe to that, but a square NT01 setup is a much more prudent vs fast time approach that a lot of guys go for.

To square or not to square...that is the question.

the Falken Rt660 exists now and should be a great alternative to the Re71 and cheaper

Looks interesting. They just don’t have good 18” sizes for my staggered setup.

The 71R was vastly superior to the 615K, so hopefully something has changed.

I’m running the RT660 in 265f/275r 35 R18 on 9.5/10.5 wheels. I have two wet days on them so far and they roughly split the difference between A052 (great) and RS4 (not great) in terms of wet traction. They don’t have the grip of the A052 on a wet surface, but the way they let go left me pretty comfortable running in some terrible conditions.

https://youtu.be/R84LTGDmfLM

I hope they split the difference on tire life and grip in the dry as well. Looks like I’ll have dry weather this weekend (fingers crossed!), so hope to have more information on them Monday.

I’m hopeful they’ll release some wider 18” sizes so I can run a more conventional setup that would be more relevant to this thread, but I’ve been curious about a 10mm stagger for a while, so figured I’d give the tire and the sizing a shot.

Totally different tire. The 615 did suck. Don't let it prevent you from trying the 660.

I'll be moving to The 660's for my Street/Auto X setup

275/30 & 295/35/19's

Then mounting the Toyo RR's for track work on my 18's.

As soon as my Yoko A052's are gone..

Not happy with the lack of feedback from the Yoko's on track. heck our steering is already crappy, then adding the Yoko's its frustrating..

You would like the rt660's then. Similar sharp turn-in as the Bridgestone.
The a052 can do it too just need to run a little higher pressures on them to make them have more feel. I agree than can be a bit mushy but they are fast

I went from R888R' s (same compound as RR as far as I know) to Yokos and it was a MASSIVE improvement. I think going from 52's to RR's would be a big step backwards.

Have you looked at the Supercar 3R? Word on the street is they're as fast as an R7.

I have not been on the Nanking tires to date.

My Track & Auto X tire resume>>>

Hoosier A6 & A7, Hoosier R6 & Radial Wet's

Toyo RA1 great tire; R888 (hated them)

Kumho Victo Racers (poor mans Hoosiers in the day) , Kumho Ecsta V700 (dreaded GOD -Groove of Doom) POS!

BFG R1S & R1's (my favorite R compound for balanced wear and grip and feedback)

Yokohama A048's-Horrible tires (hard as rocks)

200W Street Tires:

BFG Rival S 1.5
Bridgestone RE71's and RE71R's
Hankook RS3's (great street & HPDE option) The RS4's are not as good IMHO.
Yokohama A052's

And countless street tires for daily driving.

I've bought tires from Tire Rack since 1986. They love me :-)

I've also heard that the 3R's are fast...I haven't been on a set of R7's since they first came out..I've been on the R1's for many sets...Just wish they made more sizes

Nice list!

I've been buying from tirerack for many years as well.

The first sticky tire I had hooked me, the Yokohama A008, vastly better than the Pirelli P7's everyone lauded. But it wasn't enough, as soon as the A032 came out it was mine! Miss those tires to this day!

I'm very surprised you haven't used the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R, it's such a pussycat!

The Trofeo is definitely the most comfortable arrive & drive tire I’ve been on. Just a bit pricey, doesn’t last too long, and grip doesn’t match A052 or RE71R.

Supposedly the AR1 is quicker than the NT01, so that may be my budget tire. Haven’t tried it yet, tho.

I've spent a lot of time looking and talking to fellow track junkies and many of them like the Toyo RR for its consistency thru all heat cycles and wear..Don't discount them

Yup, it’s on my list: NT01 < AR1 < A052 < RR.

AR1 & A052 - 265/295
NT01 & RR - 275/305

Maybe they’ll make the RT660 in the sizes I run someday, and we’ll see where they slot into this list.

I've never been able to get any life out of the NT01, they seem to go off quickly, and get hard quicker than the others. I do like them better than the old R888, but that's not saying much.
Maybe it's just my driving style.
