My M2 Comp is one year into a 3 year lease. I do like it well enough to consider extending the lease. I've done that one other time.
I will still own a second BMW to have a daily. The M2 is my weekend fun car.

Sitting here a bit bored in the office on a Friday afternoon, this thread prompted me to do a quick Excel spreadsheet. We keep cars a long time in general, but just like in trading I dump the losers quick. Over the past 45 years that means a total of 19 cars. The two shortest owned cars were dumped after 14 months and 12 months (2004 V70R lemoned then replaced with a 2005 V70R 6MT which was then dumped). The longest owned BMWs were my 1972 Bavaria (May 1980-Aug 1994) and my E39 M5 (Feb 2004 - Jun 2018) at 14.3 years each. Longest owned overall was our 1996 850R wagon (Mar 1996-Mar 2016) for 20 years.
Overall average length of ownership for all the BMWs we've had is a bit skewed by two outliers on the low side for ownership length. I bought a new 2002 540i/6MT in Mar2002 and then sold it to buy a 2001 M5 two years later. Nothing at all wrong with the 540i/6 - just wanted an M5. The second one was a 1977 E21 320i bought in 1987. Fantastic car with Korman stage 2+ engine, suspension, Recaros, etc, except I overlooked rust -- dumped after 2 years also. If I take those two out, then our average BMW ownership length is 9.9 years. I'm guessing we'll have the M2C is long time. It was bought in Sept 2018, so it's already 25 months old. Fantastic car!

I dont plan on keeping this car longer than 3 years (my break even point for financing). And thats largely because there are so many cars that i want to own. Also the M2C is my Daily driver, and honestly i want a DD that has a good DCT. The M2C is a MT as as much as i love it, its just not as good as the MT on my S2k. End of the day, i get more satisfaction driving the S2k than i do the M2 MT. I feel like if i had a DCT i would enjoy the car a bit more. In 3 years though i'm thinking about picking up a Cayman or who knonws what else will come out then. But no i dont think i'll keep this car for a long time.

I keep my M cars for at least a decade.
M2C with low miles = reliable. Working remotely since COVID = miles stay low. Car still gets driven plenty, just not murdered with daily commute, which I like. |

Usually I'm excited about the next new model. But some of the absolute hideous designs coming out of BMW these days make me wanna projectile vomit
If they screw up the next M2 I'm out And I mean out like BIG...Possibly no more BMWs 4 ever cause I'll be PISSED OFF! |

I purchased the M2C as a stop gap until the G80.
Fell in love with it. Plan on keeping it for a while. This is the last analog BMW. I honestly think it will be a future classic. Really reminds me of a 993 in that sense. The only car that would temp me would be a C8 Z06 but even then, no manual is really an issue for me. At the end of the day, i'm not out here chasing seconds on race tracks. I'm out here enjoying my daily driving, so a proper manual transmission is a must.

Plan to keep it and pass it down to my kids. I always loved stories of people who bought a E30 or E39 from new and still have it to this day. I want the M2C to be that car. I do plan on adding the G80 M3 as a more practical car. Despite what was said on the forums, I simply love it! But the M2C is pure analog with a sprinkle of tech. Give me CarPlay in an otherwise simple car and I am happy.
I do have to concede that the next gen G87 will probably be the best M2. Why? Because it will probably have access to the CF seats and I'm sure there will be many more options (exterior/interior) to choose from. I sense the G gen was a pivot point for BMW to allow more choices to its end customer.

I'm now loan free and can literally upgrade tomorrow to a Comp. but holding out for next generation M2 - they had me manual S58 - just hoping its not ugly as sin because I certainly don't have Porsche 911 Turbo money.. |

I’ll keep my options open but I think this is a cool car and I really need to complete my vision for it before I can let it go.
Active auto may have solved its Achilles heel with their new midpipe design as well, making this car a true keeper with what sounds more like a high pitch flat 6 than the current sound of the s55 |

Mine is not only the highest performance car I've ever owned, it's a "keep it until I'm too old to drive" car. By that time my grandkids will be approaching middle age. Maybe one will be a motorhead. As I think about it, I'm getting old. :-)

Sorry, I have an OG M2, but voted anyway.
I'm 50, and all I've ever had was sports/gt cars. I really thought that nothing could beat my old '05 STi for a fantastic daily, but the M2 has bested it, so I'll be keeping it for as long as I can. |

That, or I would have to sell my house and live in my car.. Either way, I'll probably just settle for a ugly-mug BMW and stick with a indoor toilette - for now.. |

I missed out on the 1m @ sticker, kicking my self ever since
As soon as the m2c was confirmed with the upgrades I knew it was a keeper Nice enough to only hand wash but still ok to park on the street overnight We did euro delivery, I was with my dad and son on the trip, deep connection to the car already My son learned how to drive 6MT on this car, no way this is leaving the miller family anytime soon, 15+ years is the plan |
