Any input on these tires? need to get a new set and was thinking about getting those. I dont track the car, and most likely won't.
Thank you in advance

Just put them on the rear and the wheel hop is significant.

On the front end it feels like they definitely lost that extra 10-15% sharpness mid corner that the pss offered.

They definitely ride smoother.

MP4S are the successor to the MPSS that come on the M2C. So it absolutely makes sense to put on MP4S when your MPSS wear out, it is literally the "replacement" or "next generation" of the MPSS.

That would be a definite "no thanks" for me. You don't buy an M2 to slap tires on it that result in lost "sharpness"

They provide the same if not more grip to the front axle, but I believe the steering feel is better with the PSS

I ordered them yesterday (OEM size). They will be fitted on my Ferric Grey repainted first OEM set of 788s.

The almost worn out PSS at the back end give me serious traction problems with my MHD tune now lol.
Pics will follow this week.

Cheers

The pros at the Performance Center strongly recommended Continental. Best bang for your buck and performance that’s identical to the top level Michelin.

Of course it is wise to remember that Continental is the major sponsor of the PC? They put Contis on every car used there simply because they are provided by Conti for the sponsorship. If I ran the PC, I would make sure everyone was speaking Conti-speak else they wouldn't be working there any longer.

The PS4S makes a noticeable increase in longitudinal grip (i.e. DSC off, 1st gear, 2nd gear acceleration) especially at mid-temperatures (say 50F where the PSS is already a nightmare to try to get it to hook up). Also, overall the PS4S reaches higher total grip in cornering and braking vs the PSS both in the wet and dry.

Versus the PSS, the PS4S has a very slightly less steep response line (i.e. cornering force versus slip angle) on its way to higher ultimate cornering force. I assume this is due to the very nice improvement in ride quality and especially tire noise versus the PSS.

Before I traded in my M235i for my M2C, I put contis on it as they were supposed to be a more comfortable ride and perform like the Michelins. I hated them. They felt numb and I could feel a significant amount of give in the sidewalls. Glad to be rid of them.

I'd be shocked if anyone can tell the difference between MPSS and MP4S on the road. You guys are way overstating the differences, MP4S is just the replacement for MPSS.

The difference is definitely noticeable. I've swapped from MPSS to MP4S back to MPSS before and you definitely can tell the difference between the amount of grip, tire noise, turn-in feeling, etc.

Indeed. The pro was very transparent about that. He noted that both manufacturers have had times where they’re the best tire available. He noted that the PSS was great, but at the price point the Continental would do everything the PSS did, likely last longer, and be cheaper.

I can tell when I’m being sold something. I did not get that impression in the slightest. The guy we were speaking with was the one who ran our new owners track day and drove our hot laps. I trust what he conveyed, regardless of sponsorship.

I'm not sure how much I can tell on the M2, but on my other car with MUCH better steering feel, it was a huge difference going from the MPSS to MP4s.
Everything from traction (but to be fair, the MPSS was 5 yrs old (looked nearly new), and I put new MP4S on) to steering feel, comfort handling, feed back, etc.

Well, the PSS is an 8 year old design at this point, so it's really not something to compare a modern design against anyway. When Tirerack tested the Conti Extreme Contact Sport against the PS4S a couple of years ago, the PS4S significantly won every category of performance in the dry and the wet and then went on to win ride comfort and noise level evaluations also.

Just got them fitted this morning.
They're less noisy and a tad more comfy, turn in at normal speeds on wet is alright, but I've only driven 15km(<10 miles) with it.

Cheers

Robin,

FG wheels look rad.

I've ordered some black 763 and have been contemplating getting them painted similar to the APEX anthracite color prior to fitting (probably Toyota color Phantom Grey Pearl 1E3).

Where in NL did you get them painted and are you happy with paint quality? I know a place in Waddinxveen close to me that does decent work as well.

Finally, for your MHD tune, did you have to have it bench flashed or are you "pre ECU lockout"? Any troubles from the dealer with the tune?

Thanks.

I also have the 19 "Apexes but they are more 'white'.
I got those in the pics painted @ ABS De Boer overhere in Heerenveen, Friesland, where I live.
They work with my car dealership.
Good quality.

MHD: My car is pre ECU -unlocked so I was lucky. I did the flashing last august and last september I had to come in for my first service(2 year interval) and my dealer stated they had some software update. I told them please not to, because of my tune. So they didn't update the software. I have a very close relationship with my dealer i must say. That helps a lot.

Cheers
Robin

you mean huge difference in a good way and MP4S is better than MPSS?

why is this question even needed this late into the life of the MP4S?

Across the board everyone professional and consumer agree the MP4S is better in every way than the MPSS and is a true successor. The MPSS was already the gold standard before the MP4S was introduced. That should tell you what the MP4S is like.
