Hey fellow DMVers. As the weather gets nicer, I would like to hear some good twisty roads in the DC area where you all get to enjoy your M2s. I'm in the MD burbs, so these days when the weather is nice, I'll head to River Road towards Poolesville and wine/farm country out that way. Anyone know any roads that are great for driving in the DMV?

Luckily weekends have been good for driving the M2 (as is this coming weekend), so looking for more tips.

Head out west to Snickersville Pike and Lime Kiln Road. Hop on to Mount Weather if you are out there. Have fun.

A great drive on the Maryland side would be along I-68 past Hagerstown. Its a great stretch of highway with 70mph Speed Limit. Mostly traffic free, with sweeping roads and lots of steep climbs and down hills. You can be shifting gears every minute. Unfortunately I only go that far when on a family trip to Deep Creek Lake or Nemacolin, and am "forced" to go in the family SUV

Did exactly this today. Mapped out a whole half day of twisties through this route and upto 601/Mt. Weather/Paris VA, capped off by lunch at More Better Restaurant. What a blast, and really great roads. Thank you very much for the tip!

How often do you travel to Nemacolin? I am friends with the family (Hardy) that owns the resort, my wife and I are up there a lot in the summer.

Anyone here the LBB M2 I passed on Lime Kiln Rd on Saturday afternoon? I did a lap there on my way home from the CCA autox at Summit Point. Also saw another (or possibly the same) LBB on my way up to pick up some beer from Wheatland Spring.

To contribute otherwise to the theme of the thread, I've found some nice roads up around Thurmont, MD. Rt 77, Rt. 17 (Wolfsville Rd), Highland School Rd. and parts of Gambril Park Rd. The north part of Gambril Park Rd. where it turns into Tower Rd. and then Mink Farm Rd. gets pretty narrow and then turns to gravel for a bit, so I avoid that, but otherwise you can make a nice loop out of some combo of those and others. Another warning is that Rt. 77 especially is a main route into Catoctin Mountain State Park, so it can get pretty busy on nice weekends.

Awesome. I did a similar route up there in the Thrmont area, starting in Frederick, about 3 weeks ago. you get a nice figure 8 going from Libertytown to Sabillasville to Smithtown to Union Bridge and back to Libertytown. Very scenic and some good back roads out there

That looks like a great loop as well. Just have to be careful about which roads you take up that way... some that look nice and curvy on the map get real small real quick. Seems to me like the best options have a bunch of nice sweepers with a few tighter turns mixed in. Not exactly canyon carving out here, but between the driving and the scenery you can make a great day out of it.
