What's the best protection plan?
Figuring I'll do PPF and Ceramic pretty much right away.
What's best PPF? I've seen that 3M Scotchgard Pro is good but have several installers tell me Suntek Ultra is better. Anyone planning to do entire car and what prices have you been quoted? How soon after PPF do you have ceramic done?

I was quoted with Llumar Platinum, which I was told to be the same as suntek Ultra. Front half of car 1600. Front bumper and mirrors 600.
Full cquartz finest reserve. Car, full wheels, glass, full paint correction $2k. I picked based on installer and not the product. Hope that helps. I'm doing front bumper in ppf and ceramic for whole car. |

Full ppf and ceramic on top of the film quoted 6500
I learned the lesson on my m3. I went with the front only thinking that’s where the rocks hit, I started collecting rocks on the quarter panel above the factory set and even the doors. I immediately extended the rear arch and did full doors and rear bumper. It’s pretty annoying to see chips anywhere once you film a portion of the car |

I found 2 installers that use Xpel. One quoted 2100 for full front (hood, fenders, bumper, headlights, pillars, mirrors and rocker panels). Wanted 1600 for the ceramic pro coating.
Another was roughly 2900 (no pillars or rockers). Wanted 800 for the ceramic pro coating. I found via this forum a local detailer that does great work and does Gtechniq for $750. Too many options are confusing me. I can't really pinpoint my driving habits for the CS since I've never owned something that special from new. My OG M2 had 1500 miles after 9 months. Then I traded the car in for something else. For my wife's alpine white X5 coming next week, I think i'll just do the ceramic coating at $750. I have the option of bumper and headlights for $695, but I don't see myself keeping the car for more than 2-3yrs. So ceramic only is the route I'll go. Plus AW is very easy to touch up with Dr. Colorchip. |

I had Xpel put on "front"(bumper, hood, mirrors, etc) on both my 1M and M2 PE when new and kept them ceramic coated with a simple one year product. 1M has 12,000 miles and never been on track and M2 when sold had 4,600 and no track. I'm thinking full PPF is overkill. I think I'll do front with some PPF(wish I knew best brand!) and go for a bit longer lasting Ceramic. I'm sure my CS will be low mileage as I drive my other cars most often. Heck, may start driving 1M even more!

I have one word for all of you ... Autoflex Gloss.
Look it up. Sprayed on. Any color. Looks exactly like paint. More protective than ceramic. Lasts for years. Cheaper than a wrap or PPF. Take a look. My M2 is black saphire metallic, under San Marino Blue Autoflex. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1530010 |

It waxes and washes just like paint. I just ceramic coated it, and it shines like a factory paint job. Of course a direct rock hit will chip or indent it just like paint ...BUT your underlying paint will be protected! And in many cases it can be "healed" with a hair dryer and some elbow grease, which is more than you can say for paint. Autoflex will do its job! |

I'll be honest. It looks pretty good. This installer has a video of an M2. It seems like a great way to get a color change, but you still need to do the usual paint correction. What's the ballpark for a spray? It looks pretty labor intensive. The clear shield requires a lot of coats.

I didn't do paint correction. There's no need. It will be covered up.
It's about $2,700 here in Portland. There is a great installer here. It's important to find someone who's done it before. It's a 3 day process, and requires someone with a good paint booth. |

I am an 8x internationally awarded XPEL installer. Winning xpels dealer conference and placing top 3 3 times.
XPEL is the best. Do the full car if you can afford it. $5500-6k is a very fair price. You will not regret it! Just find a very reputable shop to do the work. I swear by XPEL because they are a great company and stand behind their products like no one I've ever dealt with in my 13 years in the industry. Ceramic over the film isn't a "must". |

I went with a full car PPF on my comp, no regrets whatsoever even tho it was pricey! Film I chose was the Suntek Ultra
Just puts my mind at ease if I hear some nasty rocks pelting around.

PPF is fine. Works too. I've had it on past cars.
But I don't see the need to pay $2000+ more for an old, manually intensive installed technology, when a brand new, high tech, sprayed on and cheaper alternative now exists. But it's good to have a choice I suppose. |

How new and who has direct experience with it? Does it effect the paint at all when it comes off?

It's essentially peelable paint. Comes off easily when you want it to, just like PPF, but can be formulated in any color, and sprays on, so it takes less time to apply than a wrap ot PPF.
They've improved the formula even in the past 2 years. |
