Winter wheels / Tires
Ok, I'm here to learn because my M2C will not sit in the garage this winter
What do I need for swapping wheels in my garage if I buy a winter wheel/tire combo? Torque wrench, jack, two jacks? Can you pros give me tips for what equipment to buy and how its done efficiently? I wont get snow/ice tires, but thinking about a set of AS mounted on a 2nd set of wheels. |

Couple things I'd recommend in addition to what Haz recommended:
- I'd recommend a low profile jack to ensure you can get it under your car. Something like this: https://www.autozone.com/engine-and-...ack/410336_0_0 - To lift the car, there is a jack entry point behind the front wheel. To protect the car from damage, I highly recommend getting the floor jack adaptor. https://burgertuning.com/collections...ck-pad-adapter - Don't rely on the e-brake. Get yourself some wheel chalks (or just a couple 2x4's, something to ensure the rear wheels don't roll back on you) - A good torque wrench. You'll want to torque close to 100 ft lbs, so ensure it easily goes over 100ft lbs. This one is good: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-50...DTWA/205914009 - I wrote up a DIY on how to do brakes. While this is on my current 228, the procedure will be pretty much the same for removing/replacing the wheels. Steps 2,3,4, and 18. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1708842

I bought a 5-ton jack at Costco for under $200. It’s a low profile and works great. Something else to consider is a cordless impact gun to remove the lug nuts quickly. Not needed but it may turn a 30 minute task into 20.
Good point on the jack pad. The lift point is plastic and may get damaged eventually. It’s on my list to get prior to next wheel change. Last edited by HazChem; 07-24-2020 at 03:18 PM.. |

OP, have you found the wheels you are going with? I have been looking around and it seems pretty limited unless you want to drop some serious change.
Due to my tires still being in great shape (Thank you COVID lockdown), I have pretty much resolved to risk it this year on the stock wheels and tires and ride with the wife on bad snow days. Then next summer I am going to buy a set of wheels I want and turn the stock ones into the winter wheels.

There's a super interesting YouTube video that goes over the performance of summer, all season, winter, and Nordic tires in various scenarios. He reviews their braking performance in snow, wet, and dry conditions, from below zero to 50 degrees.
Long story short, summer tires started to degrade in breaking performance (for wet conditions) at 44 degrees. By the time the temperature got to 35 degrees, it took 5 meters(!!!) longer to stop. However, in dry conditions, the summer tire was best, even down to 35 degrees. Highly recommend you check it out. https://youtu.be/bKtnczk8Mxk |

I understand, but that had already been answered a few times prior to my post. My apologize, I wasn't trying to hijack your thread.

I'm happy to hear all kinds of opinions on this topic. I bought my M2 in December and was curious about this due to the summer tires. I'm sure most owners (not on this board) drive all year on the MPSS, but its not what this tire was built for, so its good to talk about related things. |

Hello,
new M2C owner here. I'm just wondering if the 437M wheels fit with the big brake option? Mine looks like it has very low clearance already with the 19s thanks |

I believe all season tires are not worth it when using as dedicated winter tires since they are generally designed to be a "jack of all trades but a master of none". They are designed to be decent on a wide range of weather but not really great at any specific one.
I decided to go with 255/275 winter tire combo mounted on the stock 788 wheels. If you are interested, I have a pair of Pirelli Sottozero 3 winter tires that I used for about 500 miles. I can sell them to you for $300 for both tires. Brand new, tirerack sells them for $242 each. I initially ran a square setup. You can buy these for your fronts and buy rears later on. I have since picked up a winter beater so I don't drive the M2C much. I am in central VA. We can meet up to save on shipping. PM me and let me know.

I’m using a Makita cordless to remove them only. Too scared to use them to tighten them so I go manual and then torque them.
