Why the 10mm narrower tyres?
I haven't seen members discussing this point, but I noted that the M2 comes with 10mm narrower tyres for both front and rear wheels compared to the M3/4 which it shares the rims with. Anyone know why? Or at least has some theory beyond that too much grip will make it better than a M3/4?

Tire and wheel size are the same as the 1M. I think people will buy wider tires after burning through oem ones. I prefer this wheel setup over the one on my M235i wich is already maxed out (can't go wider tire wise.)

are the wheels the same offsets as those used on the M3/M4? Same part numbers?
Also the limitation may be in space which is probably tighter on the M2, although with most cars you probably safe to go +1 as in 10mm above stock safely |

Same dimensions as the F80/2. I doubt space is the issue, like others have said it's all about keeping the M2 below it's bigger brothers. I'm sure going to a 295 will be no issue at all. I wouldn't recommend that width on the 10" wheel though lol

1M and M3 E92 had the same wheels and tyre sizes so the line about keeping the M2 below the M3/4 doesn't gel. The power and torque argument doesn't work either, the 1M had less of both than the M2 and had the same combo, and, let's just say, was a bit tail happy. So larger tyres would be potentially useful on the 2.
Result, no idea |

295s on a 10" wheel won't be a problem. Only my 370z that also has 10" stock rear wheels I have 305s with no problems what so ever.

10mm makes WAY less difference to grip than tread compound. I bet someone putting a 275 on the rear in the same tire as the 265 won't be able to tell the difference outside of a controlled and measured test. If someone is serious about grip, they will replace the OEM tire with a better compound tire and add 10mm Like the RE-71R.

Assuming they fit, I will be going with 10"x18" wheels square for track duty with this car.

That chunkier [M2] body – 55mm wider front, 80mm rear – is essential to cover a wider track courtesy of M4 forged aluminium suspension components. "The track is the same, but the M4 tyres wouldn’t fit, so the tyres are 10mm narrower," says [M2 Project Manager] Isenberg. The Michelin Pilot Super Sports measure 245/35 ZR19 front, 265/35 ZR19 rear.

On the other hand, a bitt narrower tyre in general gives nicer steering feedback and more slideability theoretically. If my M2 sees snow in about 1 year(I hope) , there will be 225 square 18 inch ones on. My current wintertyres are also 225 45 18 square and it drives so much 'better' than the clunky massive 19 inch OEMS imho. (Trackdays is another story) Cheers Robin |
