Hell, even magazine testers want to enjoy the drive rather than have an auto tranny.
Well then do a test with a manual supra?

Funny thing is 95% of the reviews are with the automatic and they all say somehting like "I wish it was equiped with the manual". Then all the 0-100 tests I've seen are with the manual...

It's really tragic they are so reluctant to mate it with a proper manual gearbox.

If they are trying to save a buck, they can simple use the one from M240i and just beef up the clutch and flywheel, since it shares an early iteration of the B58.. :

Until the new Supra finally comes with a clutch, there is no competition; the M2C wins, IMHO..

I think it's the financial that doesn't make sense there. They have to modify the production line to add a manual option, which kinda defeated the purpose of joint development vehicle (to save $$$). Also there gotta be data from BMW that how many manual vs auto they sold on M cars, which I believe would be substantially in favor of auto.

Definitely true. I wonder what the market would be. A while back BMW released data for the US that showed the M2 actually sold more manuals than autos.

It was slightly over 60% take rate of the 6 speed manual versus the 7 speed DCT

I read an article yesterday (which for the life of me I can't find but will continue to pursue) that speaks to the take-rate of manuals in a variety of cars. I seem to recall that the Ms had a significant take- over 20% in the US with the M2c close to 50%. I'll continue to look for the source.

Toyota is the best selling auto maker in the world, they can spend a few bucks on a manual option and let the cost trickle down.. They ain't exactly starving and is not going be, anytime soon..

I'm sure they sell a ton more autos but the market is yearning for a manual drivetrain but they instead just keep adding more unnecessary power.

I don't know, I know the manual is a niche market but there is still a demand, it's a shame they can't see the writing on the wall..

Timing wise it would not have worked out, I am sure. B58TU may be better NOW but this is many years on from the S55 debut.

IMO, the new Supra is ugly. It will not age well because the body contours are overdone, whereas every M2/M3 ever made aged very well. Additionally, refusing to offer 6MT as an option made me never even remotely consider this car. This will not change as long as 6MT is offered by BMW.

LOL 340 hp vs 410 split by 0.5 seconds.
You guys think the M2 is a great car... I think it's so bad, I got rid of mine, could not stand it.

Ohlins, links and camber plates and set up by a race shop, new P4s and it still handled poorly. The above video says it all.

Toyota is the best selling auto maker world because they have smart people to optimize the vehicle options and not spending unnecessary money. Also I am sure the supra project has a limited budget at the beginning but with the higher demand for the car (you have to buy those damn vehicles!), they will add a manual option down the line.

You don't buy a M2 to beat supra.. Inherently we all know the 2 series is a compromised platform. You have more space, more utility than a 2 seater supra with honestly 0 headroom. The ingress and egress is also horrible on supra. I personally couldn't fit inside the supra thus I got the M2.

I tend to agree with this BMWs of old still look remarkably good. I worry that the G series is a bit too trendy, but at some point you must transition to the electric revolution. I believe the G series is an evolutionary stepping stone.

More potential for spun crank hub, for sure . I think B58TU actually will be the better option, not sure what MY that shows up in.
Crank hub definitely a concern if you go big on tuning like stage 2, etc. Next gen M2 (G87) will have S58.
I've read that the crank hub issue affects less than 1% of S55 engines. I'm considering a stage 1 Dinan tune to M3/4 HP- I can't imagine that would get remotely close to spinning the hub.- anyone have experience with it? Perhaps I should take the question to the M2C forum...
I think Dinan will warranty Crank Hub if you have issues only on Stage 1. Carbahn same thing. Neither seem concerned about stage 1 tunes causing issues.

You know, I once got a Jack Russell Terrier. So much positive press about the breed. Supposedly, it was the best "platform" of all dog breeds - loyalty, friendliness, fun... All lies. Hated that dog. Peed over everything. Chewed up my Uncanny X-Men #193. Bit me once for trying to tickle his balls. Finally, gave him away to a 6 year old kid down the block.

I hate that dog so much, to this day, I continue to frequent the Jack Russell forums to tell everyone:

If the above video says anything it's that the M2C was half a second quicker around Hockenheim than the Supra. I don't see how that would transfer to your experience with the M2C though.

I'm super happy with mine but then I don't have too many encounters with Supras ...
