Okay let me start by saying I am a proponent of installing an OCC. I fully understand the concept and I have posted previously in this thread as to why they are important. I even installed one on my M2C when it was brand new. I checked it the day before taking it in for the 1,200 mile service. At that time it had probably 1-2 ounces of liquid in it. In seeing that I felt I had justified the OCC on my car.
My car just hit 5,500 miles and I thought I would check the OCC again. I took it off and looked inside and there was barely anything in there. Picture below. So in 4,300 miles it has had almost no accumulation of liquid. I can only assume that since the engine has 'broken-in' it has no significant blow-by. Given this and the fact that I need to pull the strut brace every time to check the OCC I decided to remove the OCC. One less thing to worry about. Just wanted to give an update and add more info to the thread.

I empty mine every few months, about 50-75ml of unpleasant brown burnt oil / fuel / water emulsion each time.
Better in there than collecting in and coating the intake tract. No need to remove the brace either, less than 5 mins job done. |

Yes I have the "M3/M4" Mishimoto oil catch can on my M2C. It fits fine and works great. I suggest buying the drain plug kit so you don't have to remove the can to empty it. I did not buy the drain kit and may buy it in the future.

Aren't there factory filters that do exactly what an OCC does? I'm pretty sure there is a thread discussing the removal of the factory filters whereafter guys will install an OCC. If this is accurate I don't see the need for an OCC unless the factory filters are removed.

what is generally overlooked is that the oil will prematurely weaken the plastic pipes over time and to me that is a bonus of having a catch can to prolong the life of the pipes.

There are cyclonic separators in the cylinder head cover but these are not removable and don't work that well. Manufacturers just accept that this blow by gunk will mess up the engine over time but they don't care as it will be out of warranty / high miler cars only... |

I'm curious and I haven't been able to find an answer so far, does the s55 need or even able to have a dual OCC setup like the n54 has? Or is the PCV system setup differently where the s55 only needs the 1 OCC in total to capture for both low load and high load conditions?
