Want to add an AWD car to the garage

So, I have an 08 m3 and 10 Z4 that I'm not going to give up. Selling the 328 now and looking for an awd car to fit my other habits in. Snowboarding mostly that's why the awd necessity.

Things I'm wanting :
Awd, less than 60k miles
4 doors
Doesn't have to be Bmw
Somewhat good on gas
Leather and heated options
Under $18k

Cars I've got saved on my searches:
2014 x1
2011 x3 xdrive28. 35s are a bit pricier
2011 535x
2012 528x
2011-12 335/328 though less likely bc I have an e92 and could use something a bit more than an e9x
2016 Mazda CX-5

Any reliability issues or common problems with the Bmw models above? I'm mostly unfamiliar with the 5 series and x series

Would it be worth going for the turbo options like the 35xdrive vs 28 in regards to resale value or reliability? If 35 are high demand I'd see less point in a higher depreciated smaller engine

Ty!

I really enjoyed my Volvo XC70. That would be pretty inexpensive used. I’d say Golf R but finding something under $18k might be tough.

If you want the best AWD in that price range then Subaru Forester would be my choice. All others claim to be real AWD but can't compete with the Subie. I got one and we get a lot of snow and ice up here in winters..

Acuras sh-awd is much better then Subarus. Acuras can give all it's power to any wheel it needs, Subaru can't. Plus all reviews praise Acura sh-awd.

If you can find X1 xdrive35i, that would be an awesome choice. Very rare, and very aggressive looking in top trim. Make sure it's equipped with HIDs, because halogens completely ruin it.

HIDs were standard on the 35i E84.

Mitsubishi Ralliart 2010+ it has a evo X engine w/ smaller turbo making 240 hp with the evo X dual clutch, all connected to an evo X drivetrain sans AYC. Probably the sickest car you've never heard of. The AWD is second to none, btw: it has 3 LSDs including an ***active*** center diff. You will find that technology in exactly zero of the vehicles in your OP and probably very few vehicles period unless you buy an older evo.

You don't have to take my word or my brothers (who owns an Acura AWD). Here's what consumers report has to say about the superiority of Subarus symmetrical AWD system over others. Btw Internet is full of videos showing each systems strenghs or weaknesses.

I've had Audi A4 and Volvo V70 AWD 2.5T. Both great cars, comfortable, reasonable on fuel and AWD. Audi's AWD system is better by far as Volvo is primarily an FWD biased system, but you can't go wrong with either.

And there is plenty of videos showing Subaru getting stock and Acura walks out. I had few Acuras, a 06 rl and 09 mdx with sh-awd both. I also have friends with Subarus, and all i can say Acura is much better then Subaru in the snow.

Good links and info from everyone. I think to me, the difference between two very good awd systems may be negligible. Since I won't use it as heavily as those in the norwest or noreast I may not need the "best"

IMO, I'm not going to Volvo, not a fan of the styling inside and out

I do like the suggestions of the x5d, just mileage in my price point is a bit high

I'll keep an eye out for a solid x1 35i

But I am looking into Acuras and maybe Subaru but when it comes to styling preference, subus may not be my thing appearance why.

I would get this all day long. Destroys snow, comfortable, powerful etc. We had same year and drivetrain but up model overland summit from new to 100k miles, no issues and loved it. Ultimate ski vehicle and can do the other stuff you need like carry or tow stuff that your current cars can't. You can get cheaper with Laredo but limited has all the creature comforts too. Leather, I believe heated, seats, etc. Put a set of Michelin LTX A/T tires on it and its unstoppable.
