2017 M2 or 2018 M2 Competition
Good Afternoon,
Posting to look for some general advice into what BMW M2 I should buy, considering a standard 2017 DCT or a 2018 Competition DCT. If you could please provide me with some guidance on the above, it would be greatly appreciated. Asides from model, would you advise a PCP deal or cash purchase? Will these cars hold their value? Thanks |

I just went from a 2017 to a 2021 comp. They are different in many ways but the same in many ways. There are lots of updates in the comp that can be felt and not seen. It was tough and I watched every video out there. But the exhaust sound was way better on my 17.

It's all personal preference in my opinion. I test drove both and figured I'd have more fun saving 10k, which was roughly the price difference between the M2C and OG that I bought, and use that money to tune it a bit.
There were a couple things I liked better in the M2C, but overall felt I'd have more fun saving that money and tuning it to what I wanted. But it's all personal preference. Have to get in them and try them out. |

What I've discerned from reading a ton here.
If you want to tune the car, the OG M2 is already fairly maxed out whereas the M2C has oodles of room for more power just from a tune (S55 is twin turbo whereas N55 is dual-scroll). If you want to track the car the OG M2 will require a bit more prep than the M2C but not so much that it makes a major price difference (intercooler and brakes, I'm looking at you). I went with the OG M2 because I don't intend on tuning and I'm doing some minor updates to prep for track work. I also saw in a video it had a slightly more "analog" feel than the M2C but that may be BS. Edit: Also, there's an OG vs M2C thread right below this one in the discussion forum that may be worth reading. Last edited by m3username; 10-28-2020 at 11:57 AM.. Can't go wrong with either choice...both are arguably in the top 5 M cars ever produced and are fun as hell to drive. The difference comes down to personal preference.
I didn't plan on tracking mine, or tuning, so preferred the lower end torque of the N55 for daily driving, and I thought the exhaust sounded way better. So I went with the LCI because I wanted the newer interior.

Great question.
I've driven both, and if you're going with a DCT, and exhaust note isn't important, then an M2C is a great choice. Personally, I love manual transmissions. And the manual seems to fit better with the torque curve of the N55. Plus, it sounds FABULOUS! |
