Thanks for the offer to help with itinerary, hopefully next year, if things work out. I have been to EA's Cars and Coffee before. Hopefully I can make it out in Aug or Sept.

True and very keenly observed. The backroads are almost empty, you will anyway not go any faster on the Ring and most important, there aren't any idiots driving "single use trackday" jalopies during Touristefahrten, going for BTG laptimes.

Nice trip review and good luck with your car. Did you clean your car before shooting it? It is very clean, in almost every picture.
Also, thumbs up for staying at Dorint and not Lindner.

Your car is beautiful though, I'm considering an M2C as a second 'fun' weekend type ride.
Thanks so much! You can't go wrong with either of those options

Enjoy the car, put that sunroof open and never look back!

It was incredible! I've been reliving all the moments in my head

I assume you were going "commando" on the Ring, or were you able to find an insurance option?
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it I took the chance and went commando. I thought having the instructor and confidence in my abilities be good enough insurance to survive the 'ring. Thankfully it was

For front plate, I'm leaning towards the Sto N Sho for its ease of install and ease of removing the plate bracket from the mount. I do plan on attending a few track days and car shows, and the ability to dismount efficiently is a large factor in my decision.

The temporary euro plate is actually stuck on by double sided tape! The delivery specialist assured me that 99.999999% chance it would still be on the car when it arrived. Just to be safe, I printed out two notes (attached to this post) and placed one in the trunk and one on the dashboard.

There was a point on the track where a stock 2000 Legacy Wagon almost had a run-in with me... props to him for attempting to set a lap record on Touristfahren, but c'mon man - in a stock Legacy!?

Thank you! I wish I had the time to do that, however, a polarizing filter on my lens works wonders on a dirty car it was absolutely filthy after Como, but I guess the filter did its job to hide that.

Not a problem, that's what this community is for, sharing experiences. Let us know how your M2C is on the bad roads up north when it arrives (hopefully in one piece )

Great review. Glad to finally see an ED after all these months. That was a very ambitious (and expensive) itinerary! Despite a number of disappointments you kept soldiering on. Bravo! We've done 3 European Deliveries and I just can't get enough. It's contagious. Next time I recommend staying closer to Munich and enjoying the beautiful countryside and cuisine. Just one hour in the Welt lounge? I could live there. I think they wanted to kick me out on my delivery day.

I had no issues with getting my ED car back with the ED plates still on. I requested it and they looked at me like yea we don't touch them anymore. Pretty sure almost all cars come to North America with them still on. Hope it's same for you, OP!

Thanks for the small details. Two questions for you: 1) Does the insurance also cover theft and damage to the car in an accident--what is the deductible? and 2) I assume the Nav has the European maps loaded and the US maps are loaded at port delivery?

A question for anyone who knows: What happens in the event of a-- god forbid-- accident which requires that the car be repaired before being returned to BMW for shipment home?

Yes, Euro maps. My understanding is it is $0 deductible and covers everything. However, they've switched providers (used to be Allianz) and it no longer covers the Nurburgring...something to be aware of.

A vast majority of the cars driving TF are not covered for the Nurburgring. So, yeah. Eye opener.

Yea, that doesn't surprise me...but the Allianz insurance that used to be provided for ED did specifically cover it. There was a big thread about this over in the F80 forum when someone cracked up his new M3!

It wasn't clear to me if the the US maps were already loaded on the car. They give me a thumb drive with euro maps. The delivery specialist put it on for me and he told me not to remove it till I drop off the car. I had to unplug and plug back the thumb drive a couple time times because the maps won't load. Other than that, the maps worked fine generally. In one instance, I was turned around a bit because the roads were closed. Connected drive wasn't functional so any traffic/road closures weren't flagged. I relied on google maps in that one instance.

On the insurance front, it is still Allianz. The contract explicitly states that driving on a race track isn't covered. Other than that, it covers accidents and theft with 0 deductible.
