Lightbulb M2 order timeline

I figure I should start a thread where everyone can share what their timeline has been from the date you went on that wait list up to delivery.

Good idea. Can you also put what Week # you were told your build was and the source? Dealer, Genius, etc..

Not sure how useful this information is because of variables like location and dealership size / past sales of M cars which affects the number of allocations and so on which causes variance in the process, but I have nothing else better to do this afternoon (sad, I know), so I’ll follow the format of ric124.

My order is 2017 AW with manual transmission and blacked out front grills which will be port installed and therefore delay delivery slightly.

01/19/2016 – order placed, number 1 on dealer list (a small dealer in Connecticut)
06/16/2016 – received allocation with production number; assigned week 34 production
(August 14 – 20)
07/20 – BMW fixed MYBMW access so that I can track online

I figure if all goes well my car should be built by August 20 (that’s what the geniuses told me) and ready to pick up by late September or early October.

I’m wondering if the differential problems / stop build / recall is going to slow down the process for orders like mine that are scheduled for production since BMW will be using any available replacement diffs to first satisfy those already built (as they should).

I too will update as we go, unless someone brow beats this thread as pointless and useless and shames me off my laptop!

This thread should be under the Pricing / Ordering series of threads.

I was going to but my week number date according to Siri doesn't match the actual dates. I got week 27.

To gather data points and looking for patterns to end speculation...

For example,
  • I added CarPlay and my order status changed, Why?
    • Edit: based on dates adding Apple CarPlay did NOT negatively impact my production dates.
  • Is the build week SOP or EOP?
    • Edit: based screen shot in post #8, build week = SOP.
  • I’m wondering if the differential problems / stop build / recall is going to slow down the process for orders like mine that are scheduled for production since BMW will be using any available replacement diffs to first satisfy those already built (as they should).

week 27 == week of July 27th, which aligns with build week == EOP (based on what you posted) or order moved up a few weeks.

I'm still at 112 and was told by BMW Genius that it is 'scheduled for daily' with a week 31 build.

He did confirm that week 31 was August 1 - 5.

Perhaps. I'm no expert. I'm just quoting what I was told from BMW Genius.

This is too good. My "Genius" said and I quote "daily production with build week of week 32, which is the first week in August." My dealer printout says 08/31. Who the hell even knows.

Someone needs to get their act together.

It's looking like my production is being affected by the differential issue! Nothing has changed since July 12th!

Where did you get that screen / print / record of your car's production status? MYBMW doesn't look like that.

(At least, my MYBMW screen doesn't.)

I believe that is a tab in the vehicle locate application that the dealers use.

So it appear the next batch (at a min. your car and my car) were entered/loaded/configured in the build system on 7/12 and now we're waiting for them to push the go button.

Yup seems that way I hope we can add CarPlay if delay goes beyond this week.
