Exclamation Transmission "Revving Sound" On Downshift for F87 M2 Comp

Hey, so I recently bought a 2019 M2 Comp used at a BMW dealership with ~16K miles. It's a DCT. It was dealership certified and had a service before I got it.

Although, after driving in for a couple of weeks, I started noticing a the transmission revving when I come to a sudden stop and it downshifts multiple gears quickly. (Makes a quick sound like I'm revving for a sec when coming to a stop) It makes this sound occasionally, and I don't know what's causing it.

I'm fairly new to cars, so I'd appreciate any insight on what this could be, or if anyone faced anything similar. I'm at ~17.5K miles and don't think it has to do with transmission fluid. Thank you!

Sounds like rev-matching. Normal.

Yep, pretty sure that’s normal behavior (says the guy with a 6MT ). That’s the transmission downshifting for you and rev-matching as it does so:

It's totally normal. Like others have said, it's the engine rev matching on the downshift so the car doesn't jerk.

If you are at lower RPM's it won't do it. If you downshift aggressively where the gear you are in will cause the engine to be at a higher RPM for that speed, you will hear an aggressive increase in RPM as the lower gear engages. (I hope that made sense).
It will do it when down shifting to lower gears at higher speeds, and it will also do it if you put it in M1 or M2 mode and leave it in auto shifting mode, and you drive and brake aggressively. I personally love when it does this. It makes driving it more exciting!

Which shift mode are you in?

Woulnt usually do down shift blips unless you're in a more agressive mode.

Definitely not in mode 1 auto. That drives like slushbox.

Ah okay thanks everyone for the advice, and sorry for the lack of knowledge on what rev matching is. This makes sense, it usually happens when I come to a sudden stop when I'm going fast. Also, I totally get how it makes it more fun, I love that noise, I just wanted to make sure it was okay.

I also noticed that the brakes squeal A LOT at low speeds. My brake pads are fine. Is it just because the brakes are cold? When I take it out and push it, it doesn't make the squeal. Although, when I'm driving it normally, it often squeals (quite loud) when I brake.

Yea, it usually happens when I'm in D2 and D3 and out pushing the car and driving aggressively. It never really happens in everyday driving.

Squeal can be pretty common on those big ‘ol 2NH brakes on the M2C.

Completely normal then, exactly what it's meant to do

Also totally normal. Performance brakes tend to squeal. The more gentle you are with them, the more they will squeal. If you want them to stop (temporarily), you can do 3 or 4 aggressive stops (a little before ABS kicks in) from about 65 to 20mph. That may quiet them up for a little while.
