Burkhart Data Display AK-Motion Review

I preordered this unit before my 2020 hit the dealership.

I had it installed along with several other performance and cosmetic items.

I primarily got this so I can monitor Intake and Exhaust Gas Temps, open or close the exhaust flap anytime, and a slew of other important measurements.

https://burkhart-engineering.com/epa...Products/54486

I took a chance on this over the Awron Display which retails for at least $700 more than the AK unit.

Its easy to use, and displays all kinds of useful data which can be customized. The only negative I saw was the directions to install it are in German. The dealership I work at had no trouble installing it in 2 hrs.

Directions: http://wiki.ak-motion.com/index.php/en/user-manual

I'll snap some pics of the screens tomorrow along with the cockpit and exterior mods.

I emailed them a while back about converting to American units, is this still an issue or it's possible to convert now?

My unit can be setup Euro or US units.

Simple to setup, not sure where you thought it was euro only?

AK Motion Data Display

Was wondering if anyone had installed this:

https://shop.ecd-performance.de/en/d...lation-03-2013

It seems like the Awron one has been discontinued, so this is all I can see for the M2. Useful or waste of money in your opinion? The graphics look dated but I thought it would be cool to have all the info while driving.

HZ101 I installed the AK Motion before taking delivery back in July.

Its been awesome. I'm still working out a few bugs with it since I have May built 2020 M2C. I'm assuming that's why I can't clear codes with it or use the Delete R function as well.

I have talked to other M2C owners that have these and they have earlir built cars with no problems.

I've been trying to get AK to remote in on my laptop to fix this but the Virus has thrown everyone for a loop.

Here's one of my posts:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ight=ak+motion

I like the Boost Gauge readout, Water, Oil, Intake and Exhaust Temp functions. Easy to read while driving at speed...

One of my favorite mods..

Yeah I like this more than the P3 gauge as it has more information and a better location in the car in my opinion. 2 hours of labor doesn't seem that bad, but doesn't seem like an easy DIY job from some videos that I've seen...

I just ordered one of these on 10 July. Can't wait for it and hope it isn't to bad to install. If the install directions are only in German I guess I will be typing a lot into google translate. lol

Its actual boost in PSI. My max with the Stg 2 tune is 23.8 PSI so far.

Just read on another thread about the awron possibly interfering with a flash tune?

Is that same for the ak motion as it's wired the same? How does it exactly interfere?

Looking to install bm3 at some stage.

All you have to do is "lock" the AK Motion until the tune is installed then unlock it...its the push of one button

The AWRON and ak-motion both are sort-of talking to the car via the OBD2 port, even though they're not directly wired into it.

If someone wants to plug something in to the OBD2, you can't have two things using the port at the same time.

The AWRON is *supposed* to be smart enough to "get out of the way" automatically when something is plugged in to OBD2, and that does seem to work pretty well in my experience. However, you can fully "shut down" the awron (there's a menu function that turns it off until you power-cycle the car IIRC), and AK Motion has the "lock" feature which works the same way.

It's like 5 wires to put into housings?

I guess with the Touchdisplay you have to take one of your vents apart... AWRON comes pre-installed into an entirely new vent assembly so that does make it a little easier (but also more expensive).

IMO the worst part is getting access to the connection point at the BCM down in the passenger footwell. I broke one clip, but thankfully it all went back together OK and doesn't rattle.

It certainly does help to have the correct tools, proper German-car "terminal release tools" are very useful.

I've also done a lot of 12V work in the past though (aftermarket radio installs and concealed radar detectors or windshield detector hardwiring), so I suppose my definition of "easy" may be different from some.

Hi, I saw that you have installed AK motion display in conjunction with Electronic M Performance steering wheel. are both working together perfectly? did you loose any of their features?

As I noticed, both need to use pin 18-19 from the High CAN. how did you work around this?

Many thanks,
Alaa,

M2 guys - was hoping you can advise. I'm in an f80 but theres not much info on the ak-motion unit in those forums.

The website for the datadisplay lists the following feature. If we are understanding correct, can we use the display to turn off burbles (on comp pack cars that have burble from factory), and vice versa, turn on burbles (on base cars w/o burbles from factory)?

Quote:
Switching sound tuning ("pop/blubber" - F series function)
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!
