Tire & Rim Protection, Appearance Protection, Service Inclusive Maintenance

Hi guys,

I am waiting for my LC M2 which I confirmed the purchase order this year April, expecting arrival around next year March. I have not received the production number yet.

It is my third BMW including X4 which my wife is using as a family car purpose.

I had my tire & rim protection service on X4 which I never used for about 2 years of driving. But found that it could be convenient if I ended up any damage (although I do not how much damage that BMW would consider me to use this package).

It is still far to get my M2, but I wish to make some suggestions for BMW service packages with your experience with them.

Listed services available are (in Ontario, Canada);
Tire & Rim Protection
Appearance Protection - Premium
Appearance Protection - Ultimate
Service Inclusive Scheduled Maintenance
Service Inclusive PLUS Full Maintenance
Extended Warrenty

I also got my X4 done with PPF at the dealership, but found that it is cheaper and better to ask local service to have it done.
Any suggestions for specific area for PPF to be done on M2?

Thanks guys.

Declined all...not worth it IMO

Just lining the dealer's pockets

I do think Ultimate Care+ (Full Maintenance warranty) for 3 years is worth it for $600

I concur. Don't spend more that $600 for this.

+1

+1 if you'll hit more than 32K in four years.

Only another 5-6 tires until you break-even...I can't believe there's a deductible as well. What a ripoff

Covers Brakes (pads and rotors), manual clutch (NOT DCT), and windshield wipers. Those are the big ones.

You can also add 0 to 3 years on top of the original 3 year maintenance warranty (for 2017) - check this site for more details: https://bmwusaservice.com/ultimatecare

I agree, decided to only proceed with the $600 Ultimate Care+ as well.

On an SUV (or SAV), I don't think the tire and rim protection is worth it. On a low profile run-flat, it is totally worth it (like, don't even think about not getting it on a 7-series with sport wheels)

On the M2... well, since we don't have run-flats, I did not go with it. Remember that they will NOT replace the rim if the tire holds air - so that's another reason I skipped this (so the wheel could be so badly damaged that they can't balance it, but BMW still won't have to replace if it holds air).

I am not sure if they offer the appearance protection here in the States however, I do know that the M2 wheels are nearly impossible to cosmetically repair -so if you get curb rash a lot and that is covered, then maybe get it?

The Service+ or whatever is only worth it if you are going to go through your brakes in the first three years. I'm at 2,500 miles and i picked up my car in January, so needless to say, I skipped that.

As for the extended warranty and extended service (beyond the 3 years), I don't think that is EVER a good idea. You can always add it in 3-4 years IF you still have the car - and forget about the prorating, cause you really won't get much back and if you sell the car privately, the new owner is going to want that thrown in. So don't buy something now that you might not need later.

Those are my thoughts - and based on what I know about the US options - like the $50 deductible, that might be different in Canada.

There's no deduction in Canada. I had the tire and rim protection package on my F30 and replaced the tires 4 times in 2.5 years.

The package also applies towards winter rims and tires as well!
