I was even driving in snow/slush at Watkins Glen earlier this year and was having fun with the 4S. The other tires would have had me in the wall.

I don’t street race, so the 71Rs and R7s stay on my track wheel set. No need for the extra noise and harshness on the street for me.
The time I bought my Cup2, there is only 2017 made front size for the 4S, I need to settle for a 2016 made rear 4S.

I saw your discussion on 295/30 rear on stock wheel, if we go 255/35 front, how will the electronics on the car be affected?

The electronics should be ok. Mostly what the car is looking for is a larger diameter and sidewall height in the rear. Otherwise, the car will think the rear is slipping relative to the front and will engage traction control.

Following up on this, I wasn't sure which tire sizes exactly you were comparing. If it's 295/30/19 & 255/35/19, I wouldn't recommend it. The 295/30 has a shorter overall diameter and sidewall height compared to the 255/35.

It's the actual measurements that matter, vs the series, but if you put a 30 series on the rear you're essentially forced to put a 30 on the front within the size ranges that fit on the M2.

I've run 245/35 & 265/35 and 265/35 & 285/35 on the OE wheels, and 265/30 & 295/30 on a track wheelset. Personally, I'm trying to decide 255/35 & 285 or 295/35, or 265/30 & 295/30 for my next set of 4S's on the OE wheels. Comfort, wet track grip, and then dry street grip are the order of my priorities, so leaning towards the 35's.

Was talking to some M2 folks during last M Fest in France, larger front tires could become a bigger problem of little stones hits damaging the paint on rear sides, despite the (too) small protection, one of them had a LBB driving intensively in mountains, his side was full of minu white spots ... so he made some front protection, i think its wise to stay with 245 in front

Understand, that means the overall circumferences of the front and rear matters to the stability system. May be after this set of Cup2, I may just look at 255/35 and 275/35 on either RE71R or PS4S!

I was told by a Michelin rep at a recent M track day that star spec 4S are coming soon. He said the compound and/or tread pattern will be more specifically tuned for the M2 on those as they are developed specifically with the OEMs. FWIW.

Garage List
I have like double wear left on the fronts and soon need to change the rears.. I feel it's a waste to change the fronts at the same time..

Is it "OK" to have stock tires on fronts and PS4s on the rear? Only street and spirited overtakes on my part..

The RE71R on the back was almost worn out after 12000KM including 3 HPDEs. Hankook RS4 was on my top list, but I was so mad I didn't order earlier and now that it's sold out and will not be available any time soon.

I don't really want to use AD08R (poor man's RS4, IMO) and see it lasting forever on my car. So I settled for Cup2, should be doing great in Summer. Here in Shanghai, summer is 90~100F most of the time with high humidity.

Installed Cup2 on the back today. Did a few LC@2500rpm, and got mostly 4.1~4.3s in 0-100kph, or 3.9~4.1s in 0-60mph, meaning grip is there.

Now that I don't struggle getting them up to temperature, so far so good.

I was headed towards the 71R's for my daily which will see 4-5 track days a year.. but having read about it's horrible wet street performance, maybe PS4S is indeed the go....

I’d definitely go 4S for your daily in your situation. Much quieter and comfortable, and any wetness beyond a warm summer sprinkle puts the 71R at a severe disadvantage.

Plus, being in CO, you’ll be able to drive a cpl more months in the year with the 4S. The 71R is sketchy below 45F on the street, which you’ll definitely see in spring/fall mountain runs.

Put the 71Rs on a dedicated wheelset and run them at the track and in the middle of summer (when it’s not raining...).

Summer is hot enough for the Cup2, and so far used over 3,000km, the wet performance is not that bad. Enjoy.

Which coilovers are you running?
