my wife is super sensitive to smells. If looking for one without that smell, the Cosori air fryer is one. (I didn't even know plastic smell was a thing until reading this thread).

Yeah it is, reason the air fryers get good results is because of the wire mesh basket, using a similar pan/tray/mesh in a convection oven is the same. We have a double convection oven and air fry/convection toaster oven. The dedicated air fryer was used once and given away, too big to keep on the counter and hassle to put away and drag out. Have a good real oil fryer, use sunflower or peanut, there is no equivalent, except for the mess and cleaning of it every few months.

I'm surprised some oil frying conglomerate hasn't sued to stop calling them air fryer, cause nothing is technically fried. Saw a story the other day that the air fryer trend has perhaps peaked.

My Tfal Actifry was awesome but the thing broke unfortunately (it lasted 8+ years though!). It was indispensable, I cooked (reheated) frozen fries/nuggets/strips and made my own fries. I didn't bother doing any of the fancier stuff though. I imagine it would save some $$$ instead of firing up one's big oven just to bake a few fries or whatever, not to mention being much faster. My model was so easy to 'clean', I just threw the parts into the dishwasher.

I just didn't get around to fixing the thing, so have been making due w the oven, but it's sorely missed.

If you luv making wings, its worth it for this alone. Perfect wings in less than 30mins which are crispy and lots of fat burns out too.

Also great for warming up day old pizza.

Beyond that, i mean if you're just cooking like one corndog or something it's a waste of time and gas to heat up a big oven.

Surprised the heat comes out of your oven like that.

Air fryer is good for kid food. A steak? Definitely no.

I just discovered that Buffalo Wild Wing's lemon pepper dry seasoning is available on Amazon. Sodium bomb aside, me thinks that I may take a crack at making a batch of wings in our air fryer this weekend to see what happens.....

Maybe take an extra BP pill for the sodium. I have some medicine (clonidine) for just such an occasion.

I'm going to show my wife this. I tell her every time she uses ours it makes me feel sick, I can smell it but she can't. Doesn't seem like a plastic smell to me, I think it's the non stick coating. Bet if we had a canary that sucker would be dead, I'm sure of it lol.

I already won a betting pool at work for having the lowest blood pressure of every employee tested. One of the joys that comes with heart failure and *insane* doses of diuretics. I'm already on a low-sodium diet FWIW, but can survive an occasional sodium bomb.....

We have a small kitchen, with a big window that over looks the river so we get a ton of sun in there in the afternoon.

The regional trauma center sent me home to die in 2016, and the only thing keeping me alive and my CHF in check is massive doses of vitamin pee as the nurses call it. (Picture peeing out over 19 gallons of retained water over seven weeks in the hospital.) Sodium causes fluid to collect around my ticker, and I had to avoid it like the plague for the first few years. I can now survive an occasional sodium bomb meal, but avoid it as much as possible.....
