I had no plans to buy a 2 CS. Having an F80 M3, and 2 E90's before, I was on a crash course for a G80. I have been ambivalent about the aesthetics since the launch photos. I now have seen the G80, and I am VERY happy I went with an "impulse" buy of the CS. Getting past the looks of the G80, the car has gotten HUGE, and heavy. When I saw the G80 last weekend, there was also a CS next to it (not ours), and it really drove home how the 3 series has grown. Be interesting to see an E39 M5 next to a G80. The 3 series has become the 5 series of yesterday.

My reaction to the G82 reveal was the exact opposite of my reaction to the Aurum Dust M4 reveal at pebble beach in 2013. It was pretty clear from the beginning that I was skipping this generation's M4. The M2CS is perfect (aside from the lack of comfort access )

I think it's a safe bet they are preparing us for a FWD based hybrid thing in the future given how bloated the new design is. |

You should feel comforted that you have access to the M2 CS; there's your comfort access

But seriously, I have been well trained over the years by BMW to touch the handle to lock/unlock. And then they pull this like some kind of sick joke. I honestly didn't think it would be an issue, but yesterday I must have tried to touch the handle every damn time I went into my car and was seriously considering the Bimmer-tech comfort access kit. |

I have priced out a manual M3 and it is the same pricepoint as the CS. I started with the e36 and have the base (no options single hump) e92....and felt the CS is the next step of evolution in that family tree. But the new platform is very tempting. So it is classic vs progression maybe, for design and the entire vehicle?!?! |

Questions for you (and anyone else): 1) Do you find you have to shut the doors harder than on the F80? The F80 doors seemed pretty light touch but on the M2 they take a bit more of a slam to close completely. 2) Brakes squeaking under medium pedal pressure. Could be because of only 15 miles on the clock? Squeak goes away under light and harder pressure. Is this something to worry about or no? Congrats on your decision and purchase! |

Dimensions (ft) M2CS E39 540i G80 M3 Length 14.64 15.68 15.73 Width 6.14 5.91 6.24 Height 4.64 4.72 4.70 Weight (lb) 3,417 3,660 3,759 When I look out the front of the house from upstairs I'm struck by the fact that the M2CS and 540i don't look significantly different in size. It's just possible to discern that the E39 is longer. The biggest visual differences are the wheels (my aftermarket BBS RS-GT 18" wheels visually look much smaller than the 763M's) and, of course, the 4 vs. 2 doors (but the E39 doors are much smaller). And the CS is prettier :-) |

It's like deja-vu all over again. Back in 2001 they launched the E65 7er with the "Bangle butt", followed by the E60 5er "Dame Edna" look, and finally the E63 6er. I still feel a small amount of spittle and bile welling up in my innards when I come across those ugly relics.
These newer models were probably created by Design(Doesn't)Works in Asia. Can't really blame them for designing for this market. 1.7 trillion Chinese (disclaimer: pending 2030 census) can't all be wrong.

For the brakes, you need to bed them in, do a few medium braking speed runs and get them nice and worked in. They are a little squeakier than the M3, but nothing out of the ordinary for a big brake car.

A strange step for the design language. I like the headlights but the overall details are very busy. I saw some aftermarket concepts that bring back the more traditional BMW design language and I gotta say it works very well.
Maybe this generation will go down like the Bangle era BMWs; in 5-10 years we'll grow to appreciate it. Doubtful. |

This design is just too loud, and it won't age well. I mostly say that because it looks like any other major Asian brand at this point. If you took the BMW badge off, i'd tell you it was a new design for a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Kia Stinger, or some sort of Chinese brand. And I personally never had a problem with that era of BMW. |
