Music files and CD's are mostly recorded and played back from the media in stereo. There is no center channel. Creating a center channel from just Left and Right involves some heavy processing, compromises, and often just messes up the music. Dolby Surround, L7, and lots of other codecs create "surround with center channel" estimations to the best of each codec's capability, but the results are often questionable. Sometimes it's OK, and sometimes its not, depending on the track and the equipment.

The M2's HK system, along with the Hifi system in most BMW's, does not HAVE Dolby Surround or L7 processing. The amp is just doing a cheap Left-Right mush to try and produce "center" sounds. It's not a good thing. It destroys the original separation between the channels, makes the sound weird and muddy, and the only point to it is so that people get excited by the number of speakers their cars get, and don't notice how close they are sitting to one channel vs the other quite as much.

Pulling the center channel brings your audio system in sync with the number of channels that are actually being presented to it, resulting in clearer sound (but you probably will notice the shorter distance between you and one of the channels...left or right depending on what side you drive on).
Unplugged the center speaker today. Sounds much better!!! I can actually hear the tweeters and door speakers now. With the center speaker connected I heard mostly the center speaker. For me, the sound seems clearer with a much better overall tone. Took about 15 minutes to do.

Look at posts 1401 and 1404 in this thread. Take off the speaker cover with a bondo spreader or plastic trim tool. Unscrew 3 screws for the center speaker and disconnect speaker wire.

...and either use some foam or something to keep the floppy speaker wires from becoming the world's most annoying rattle.

FYI Brian @ Sun Motor Cars is leaving after 29 years of great service and moving to another city. He mentioned that Sun Motor Cars will be stepping away from volume sales and prices will go up 15%. Tomorrow is his last day so hit him up today if you want to pull the trigger. bkeller@sunmotorcars.com

Their pricing was always quite lower than any one else. I hope the prices across the board don't go up once Sun Motors is out of volume sales as an aggressive price competitor

Just checked their eBay page.

They have the M Perf diffuser for $825 and M Per side winglet L/R set for $610. Great deals and if I were ready to spend on superfluous stuff I would open my wallet right now.

I bet they will go even lower if you email them since eBay takes a cut of sales

I've never bought off their ebay; always direct email quotes. Free shipping, no tax and nice discounts.

Same. I just like to browse their eBay to get an idea of their price before hand. Usually it's close

Received a booklet from BMW about M performance and CF parts, one of the part is M performance exhaust PN. 18 30 2 459 928. When I search this part no, it results in M performance exhaust for M2 LCI and not M2C.

I didn't know if we had M performance exhaust for M2C. [IMG][/IMG]
