His opinion is relevant to me, as he’s well known and respected by car enthusiasts. Therefore, if he’s positive about a new car model, it’s one more variable that can help keep second hand residuals strong when I sell it.

It may only make an infinitesimally small difference, but it’s still more beneficial than him (and others) saying something negative.

There are quite a few automotive journalists by profession , not the internet or circumstance, that are also very capable and fast behind the wheel. Their opinion does have value, take it from somebody who has been buying ten or more car magazines a month for the last 25 years.

Don't be lazy, read up.

Cool, I'm interested in what he's gonna say. I wonder what he's gonna say about the sound, the car will have ASD so it might actually sound better inside.

As far as caring about his opinion - I was just recently deciding between the RS3 and M2. I test drove them back to back and surprisingly liked the RS3 more (for sound, grip, power, comfort, instrument cluster). But deep down I wanted the M2 (for the looks, ergonomy, manual transmission, RWD, and just being a fan of the brand).
I tried to convince myself that the handling is not that important to me. I literally told myself - you are not Chris Harris, you will spend 99.9% of the time looking at the road through the windshield rather than the side window

I once had an Audi for 4 months. Since then I have been able to feel at one with someone suffering the bizarre torture of being locked in a plush restaurant being served dry white toast for every meal.

His review will be interesting given the reported torque and/or sound issues if the EU spec M2C.

It will drift wonderfully!!! That is for sure...

He will have a blast. Question is how hard he is on the engine/gearbox absence of feedback and the noise.

I think he will be really positive, because the handling of track is amazing.

Can't wait. Huge fan of Chris Harris and his in-depth style of reviews.

Also glad he doesn't wear khaki shorts.

Well.. you don't need to be doing massive drifts to take advantage of the driving feel of RWD with an LSD. An offramp, wet or snowing roads, pushing it through canyons. What makes the M2 so great is it oversteers very predictably and progressively like an E46 M3. So you can have a little bit of fun while staying well within the bounds of safety and well out of the realm of a drift. Can't do that in an RS3. The harder you push a haldex car, the more they just plow. Opposite is true of the M2, and crucially it does it in a way that won't have you flying off the road.

Initially I did the same comparison as you to the RS3. I prefer its looks, interior, motor, sound, and price. But, I recently owned an S4 and won't be going back to an Audi ,certainly not one with an automatic either.

Years ago I had a TTRS great motor with a 6 speed but it was a pig on track. I put a haldex completion controller on it and a larger rear bar plus maxed out the alignment . It weighed 3360 with 63% on the front wheels . The understeer was awful as is to varying degrees on every haldex car I've driven inc the 18 TTRS & RS3. The exception is the lambo huraciane they use a haldex but in the other direction it locks the front wheels and the rear are always driven. Carl
