Service Intervals?

I got my car used so the 3 year/36k maintenance plan didn't transfer over, so I'll be doing most of the maintenance for my car. The only problem is that I don't know how often I am supposed to do everything. The only thing I am certain about is doing engine oil changes every 5k miles and changing spark plugs every 30k miles when stock.

How often should I flush brake, coolant, power steering, trans and diff fluid, etc.?

Thanks!

Brake flush is every two years unless you track your car. Then most clubs want at least once a year. Coolant is every four years. BMW claims the other fluids are lifetime. But most people change them at 50K miles or so.

How many miles on your car? How many years in service? I thought you can transfer the free service by paying BMW $100 or something

I have a 2020 M2C and for my 3 year (21k miles) service BMW did 1) oil/filter change, 2) air filter, 3) spark plugs, and 4) brake fluid change

Also, did the TCM recall sw update

I have a 2020 with 16k miles, it had its break in service at 1100 miles, oil change, cabin microfilter change, and "central locking remote control key battery permanent failure" 1 year later at 7600 miles, then a year after that it had a brake fluid flush and oil change at 15300 miles. I bought the car at around 15800 miles on the odo. I plan on doing my own oil change at 20k but I guess I will also do spark plugs since you said BMW did it for you at 20k

I was not aware that you could transfer it for 100 bucks, I would have done that if there was an option to but my salesperson explicitly told me that the service thing doesn't transfer, and that seems to be what the BMW service webpage says as well so I don't think they were pulling a quick one on me

Spark plugs are recommended every three years.

So as Dan says, the sparks are done after 3 years, so you should do those.
I may be mistaken about the transfer, but luckily there aint a whole lot to do in a low mileage car in 3 years.

I have heard the same about the $100 transfer to a new owner. I believe some dealers are reluctant to do it for whatever reason, so worth calling around if your dealer says otherwise.

I think MPhatic on this forum, knew a dealer that was helpful with this. Maybe he can chime in.

Spark plugs are 30k miles. Age has nothing whatsoever to do with when they actually need replacing- despite some dopey time interval dreamed up by some BMW intern.

Car has already been purchased and I remember signing something that said that I acknowledge that the service plan doesn't transfer over

Kutta, would it be too much trouble to post another image of the maintenance schedule, can’t see year 5 and looks like it has another page on bottom? TIA!

The M2 maintenance schedule is also online. For example, MY19, since I think that’s what the OP has:

In that situation, absolutely! It’s a great freebie cuz its an expensive labor-intensive job once it’s coming out of our own pockets.

I typically find this info via:
  1. https://www.bmwusa.com/ (or appropriate BMW website for your country)
  2. Owners
  3. Warranty Information
  4. Enter year and model

Thanks! The schedule is probably the same as an OG model. Caution to US owners though, the spark plug replacement even though it’s scheduled for the 3 year service is based on some BMW algorithm that did not set off when I brought the car in for my last covered free maintenance (US covers 3 year free maintenance). It popped up on my Idrive screen less than 1 month later and I showed to my service advisor what the schedule says and that some forum members here got theirs changed under the plan and to his credit he got it “good willed”. I still take my car to them for this reason as “goodwill” goes both ways. I only had about 10k miles at the time as it’s only a pleasure vehicle.

Also, do you need to prime the engine after doing an oil change?

I changed out my M2’s engine oil this past weekend. After draining out all the old oil, getting the new filter on, and reinstalling the drain plug, I put in 6 qts of oil. Then I started the car and let it idle until the digital oil measurement function in iDrive was available. It read a bit below the upper/max line. So, I poured in another ½ qt and measured again. This time it measured right up to the upper/max fill line.

I didn’t take any steps — that I know of — to explicitly prime the engine after filling with new oil.

You take out the oil filter before draining oil, correct?
