You're right, haha. The 6MT knob & boot is missing in the list. Here it is: 25 11 7 854 545 (LHD), 25 11 7 854 546 (RHD)

You can get the old-style Performance knob, too. So many possibilities!

But hey, that's pretty fair, isn't it? The 1 M got M mirrors, but not the illuminated knob. The M2 gets an illuminated knob, but not M mirrors.

Sorry to have turned this thread into a banal gear knob illumination topic. But as you may have guessed, I like details.

Never got an answer why the 1M didn't get the illuminated gear knob. Maybe it was one of the very last electric wiring details they couldn't deal with anymore because running out of time, so kept it 135i 6MT style ?

Seriously though, it's kinda neat to have some extra ambient light inside the interior at night, methinks. That's why I always spec ambient lighting on all my cars. And the M2 interior itself is already pretty dark, so some ambient touches here and there are kinda cosy/loungy.

That's also why I spec'ed the sliding roof: sometimes I wanna see the sun, clouds or stars above me, get some extra light/air/sound entering the interior.

I believe some 128/135's had an extra wire - I've seen a thread where a guy, installing an F10 M5 knob, found a wire in there. Maybe earlier MY's with the smokers' package were like that?

+100

I close the sunroof (or moonroof?) shade only on the highway at high speeds. It stays otherwise open all the time! And the panoramic roof in the wagon is just the best during warm summer evenings.

Unfortunately not. And there was zero opportunity to use the iPhone - we were going pretty quickly, and were in the cars by ourselves which rules out the iPhone.

Judging steering feel is obviously a pretty subjective exercise. To me the steering feel on the M2 was much better than the M3/4. It seemed to want to point the front wheels a little more easily. And I had a better sense of where the front wheels were. I would also say that the steering feel was a little lighter than the M3/4 (which I had set to comfort in each case), which to my taste gave me a little more feel.

It felt like a hydraulic rack to me - if I didn't know it was electric I would not have picked it as such.

As I say though, this is all very subjective.

No issues at all with the downshifting. Every shift I asked for I got straight away. Slight blip on the downshift which was nice. It performs just like the DCT on my M5, and for that matter just like the DCT on the M3 and M4. Felt to me like the same shift speed too.

I also have an M135i with the auto box, and that is a good box for an auto, but the DCT in the M2 leaves that auto box for dead.

Interesting. I did a BMW day at Eastern Creek and found somewhat the opposite. M4 had a tiny bit more feedback via steering (of texture and weighting as grip levels waned) and noticeably more coming through the contact patches. Turn in was pretty equivalent, even in T2 (tightest). The M4 had more immediacy in its response to throttle input, felt a step closer to a track car than the M2 on its non-adjustable suspension.

Both cars were set to Sport by default however. Did you have the M4 dampers also set for Comfort?

The DCT in the M2 with the N55 was amazing. I missed some of the items in the m3/4 like HUD and shift lights.

On the main straight the m2 was accelerating hard in 5th going through 225 kmh. Only marginally slower than the m3/4.

I am posting this on the plane on the way home so apologies for the brevity.

I was really genuinely surprised how competitive the m2 was with its big brothers.

What a day !
Couldn't agree more. Just spent day 1 with the M2 at the Thermal Club and I think it is going to be BMW's new bread and butter.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to get anyone's back up - having not had a BMW before, it sounds like a very odd feature on a modern car - i'll swap mine out for one of the BMW performance parts mentioned

Back on track (literally!)- this sounds very encouraging, especially IF steering feel is up on the M4. Nothing worse than having vague feedback. Did you get chance to try the different chassis/setup options (sport etc)

I don't see why not. Although, I don't believe I saw one of those on the "official" performance parts press release for the M2?

EDIT: swagon already answered, sorry!

Are you asking if it felt " cheap" like a Hyundai ?

Have you driven a 2 series ?

Not really. Just a subjective impression thing - going between M4 and M2. I have not driven a 2 series and, frankly, the answer would not have changed my mind about getting the car. Was just curious about the subjective feel of the comparison. I am super excited. Probably going to head to my dealer - they have a couple M235s in their lot. May go see what's up.

I have a 2015 X1 (which uses Dakota leather) and obviously my 2015 M3. In terms of leather quality the Dakota definitely feels cheap compared to the Merino but not cheap overall like pleather.

M4 with full leather is a huge upgrade compared to an M2 interior wise.

yeah, Dakota leather seems harder and rougher surface while the Merino is softer and smoother texture.

I know what you're asking. I'll tell you this, after being in an actual M2.

The average person who sits in that car, will say, "Wow, the interior is very nice".

That should answer your question. On the relative scale, it is a nice interior.

In all reality this should be the case with every BMW, and if its not BMW missed the mark.

I'm not sure people who have driven other luxury brands will say that. I say this because many MB/Audi guys bag on the M3/M4 interior which is obviously a bit higher end.

I also did the morning session yesterday.
If it's okay I will post some pics from yesterday.

Ripper of a day, and the M2 is a little cracker!
