Rendering or not, love the ass end flares! If even close to actual, it will look killer.

I was going to get an M4 but quickly changed and put a $1k deposit down on an M2. M2 is the same size as an e46 M3 and I think its the perfect combination of size and the power its going to have.

Here are the most recent pictures.

No doubt the M2 will be an awesome car, but it's not a direct (smaller) replacement for an M4. M3/M4 are going to have more bells and whistles options available, paint choices, CF roof, etc. If you were planning on getting things like HUD, Harmon Kardon, LED lights, etc., you might feel the M2 to be a bit stripped down. The benefit is lower overall cost!

the main factor that my friend decided to go for the M4 instead of waiting for the M2 is the interior will have plain jane 228i Mpsort seats and no M specific seats available.

My previous M3 I ordered with very limited options. Just competition package it had and no navigation.

I want a drivers car and I do not care about HUD, leather dash, etc. I just want a fun car to drive that does not feel HUGE when I sit in it. I love the looks of the M4 but when I sat in one it felt very big for a coupe. A smaller car would be more fun IMO.

You can add seats later. You realize it only takes 4 bolts to remove the seats right? Not a good reason to not buy an M2.

Who wants to go through that pain? Might as well pony up and go for an M4 if you are looking for all the bells and whistles.

Funny because I know someone who did the opposite. He had a deposit down for an M2 one year ago; he is first in line. Recently his CA told him that the M2 will probably be marked up $20k. There goes the cost savings. He's gonna stay in line and feel it out, but he's looking for an M4 now.

I would still see the appeal for an M2 IF it was a baby M4. But it's more like a refined/supped M235i; with body differences and chassis differences, but the engine is the same N55.

Not that the N55 is a bad engine. I have a 335i and like it a lot. I just can't see paying M4 prices for an M2. But I won't refrain from being oogly-eyed when I start seeing the M2s on the road that's for sure.

^They'd do much better to go with the more tunable N54 2 turbo design rather than the N55 twin scroll single turbo.
Then again, from BMWs standpoint why step on the M3/4s toes. Smart.

Because there are plenty of us that feel the M3/4 is simply just too big. The seats can be "fixed" with 4 bolts. How do you shrink an M4?

Personally, I plan on getting an M2 with almost 0 options, apart from maybe LED if they become available during LCI in a couple of years. I'm DDing an E36 M3 now, and that car has absolutely no bells and whistles. And I love that car just the way it is.

Garage List
Why would they use the all but discontinued N54 (Z4 notwithstanding)? That would make no sense fiscally or logistically.

The bigger question is why didn't they use the new B58?

Why would it be marked up $20k? It's not a limited production run. I could call my dealer right now and get on the list for one under MSRP.

Beats me. That's just what they told him. It's not unheard of... the i8 was selling at $100k mark up in some places. However, I'm was in the camp that said he should wait it out because if you crunch the production numbers, the M2 is going to be just about as rare as the F80 M3. Which is rare... but you don't see people paying $20k over msrp for an M3.

Hopefully it's just an ass CA trying to take advantage of the situation; which wouldn't be the first time that's happened.

Closed deck, liquid cooled, etc...it's got my vote. Though it is a single turbo design, think turbo lag, but with the above mentioned it could be an extremely capable M engine.

My guess is that the M2 was already in development before the B58? <--Speculating.

If he really wants one tell him to PM me. My dealer will sell to anyone at MSRP they don't mark up. Likely will give him a little discount.

Got to love secondary & tertiary markets. Luckily we all don't live in LA, NYC or DC.
