Got a GLC300 Coupe

I've owned BMWs for well over a decade (e28, e90, f82, g01). They are fantastic cars and I would never rule out getting another one.

When I purchased the 2018 G01/X3, the new X4 wasn't available yet (which is what i wanted in the first place). I traded in my M4 because I was looking for something more focused on luxury and less on sport. At the time I made sure not to select anything m-sport and still felt like it wasn't at the level of comfort I was seeking. I get it, BMWs branding dictates that sport is prioritized over comfort, even in their SAVs.

21 months later, I resolved to get something more luxurious. First I shopped the X6, then the X4 and still didn't feel like the improvement in comfort was great enough to warrant pulling the trigger. A week later my wife and I were talking and we concluded that we should just go sit in a Mercedes and see for ourselves what they are all about.

I was very pleased with the compliant feel and was adamant about prioritizing luxury over sport. My objective was a supple ride that still looked good (yes I know, looks are VERY subjective). I first sat in the GLE 63 which was the only trim they offer for that model and once again, I reminded the salesman that I wanted nothing sport oriented. Besides the C63 is wildly beyond what I wanted to spend. This led me to the GLC 300 "coupe." I always thought they were attractive even though they look, suspiciously, very much like the original X6. The seat heaters get hot, which I had always complained about in my X3. MB updated their MBUX (I-Drive) System and it's quite a leap forward from that inferior screen they had before. The instrument cluster is similar to the digital one in BMWs of 2018. My only complaint is that ACP isn't wireless, but I always plug in anyways because I have battery anxiety. On the flip side, MB hasn't transitioned Apple Car Play to the subscription services. I appreciate that the Blind spot warning has an audible warning along with visual. During the almost 1 hour test drive, making sure to go in some uneven and just plain bad roads, I was impressed at how well the GLC absorbed road imperfections.

I was sold at this point and went ahead and moved forward on this vehicle. We purchased a different one from what we tested because I could not do without HUD or park assist. The one we bought was well optioned, to include the AMG body kit, which concerned me at first. I reminded again, "I don't want AMG suspension!" and my salesman assured me it didn't include AMG suspension. Additionally, the wheels are very attractive but at 21 inches which caused concern, but the side walls were tall enough to keep the ride compliant and the difference from the non-AMG appointed GLC was negligible.

I just took delivery last Saturday and hope to keep this one more than 21 months which, between my wife and I, seems to be a trend. I still enjoy BMWs and continue to follow the brand. I still plan to lurk here. Thanks everybody.

My wife and I are on our second GLK250 Bluetec. Comfortable ride, great visibility and a very solid truck. I drove the previous one to Florida and back with a buddy of mine. The return trip included an 18 hour run from New Orleans to Ohio and I have no complaints about comfort. You can't go wrong with MB. Enjoy.

I work for MB and have driven GLCs quite a few times and have been quite unimpressed every time, although the GLE and GLS are quite nice compared to their Audi/BMW counterparts. I also hope that you've leased or are buying for non-long term ownership as the 300 engine range blow up quite often, especially if you use shitty gas, and MBUSA has not resolved the problem or extended the warranty for the problem like the HPFP in the N54s. There hasn't been a week that I haven't seen at least one 300 on a lift getting a new engine. With the 2015s out of warranty now, a guy recently paid 12k+ for two pistons and a head.

That said, MB is at the forefront technology wise and it is quite a nice car and I hope you enjoy it.

Guess I should've paid more attention during the required quarterly training on the new MYs . Awesome news, enjoy the car.

To be fair, every car is a risk. Even if you get one that's considered reliable.

I've been lucky, except for that damn LR Freelander...wayyy back when.

Enjoy your new car. I am curious about one thing: given your priorities of comfort over sport, did you cross shop a Lexus? Between BMW, Merc and Lexus, in comfort terms, I would normally rank them in the inverse of the order I just listed.

Another thing that makes me feel better about my MB...it's says made in Germany on the data sticker....the X3 said SC....that always bothered me...

Whatever works for YOU. MB makes a great car and definitely, compared to BMW, tends more toward the comfort side (unless you get talked into an AMG model which you nicely deflected).

I fail to see the coupe in this thing. It's a jacked up 4-door CUV.
