Delay taking delivery

I was anticipating taking delivery on my M2C early/mid-August, so in the meantime, I decided to purchase some property (yay). I anticipate closing on the house within 2 weeks but here is my dilema...my car has arrived a few weeks early and will be at the dealership this Saturday (7/20).

Do any of you have experience delaying your delivery date? I have to close on my house before taking delivery of the vehicle because I can not purchase (finance) anything prior to closing, as per the request from my Loan Officer.

My anxiety has me worrying that the dealership will not want to keep my vehicle sitting on the lot for 2 weeks and may end up selling it. Anyone else run into a similar situation where you couldn't take delivery when your car arrived and had to delay the process?

Demand on M2Cs has softened a great deal and closing on the house is a priority. If it were me, I would let it go if the dealer isn't willing to hold it for a couple weeks.

Oh, of course, the closing is a priority! I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize that. Investment vs depreciating asset—It's a no brainer! I will have an open discussion with the dealership this weekend but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation and what their outcome was/advice.

Thanks for the advice!

good luck with closing. Agree let it sit dealer should not have an issue holding it for a few weeks. would suck though if they can't, esp after all this anticipation

Any franchise dealer will not risk the drama of selling your car. A couple weeks is nothing,

The only thing I could envision is that they might have major heartburn if they are below their monthly sales goals and they were planning to get it on the books in July. Dealerships live and die by their monthly sales numbers. Still, I'd think that if you put down a deposit, that gives you some control. Did you sign any paperwork? Look at the fine print and see if it says anything about a delivery window or timeframe.

I agree with others. Demand has soften. My last purchase dealer held the car for two weeks and was fine. Call dealer tell them you situation. Offer more deposit if they need it

I presume you have a deposit on the car. If so, I can't imagine a dealer selling it to someone else once you explain the situation. Just make sure you clarify that you want all delivery protection to stay on the car until you take delivery and that NO ONE drives the car (that would be my main worry).

I provided a downpayment to secure an allocation. However, I did not sign any paperwork.

Great point!!! I have a great relationship with my Sales Associate, I'm sure he'll work with me. I just need to have an open discussion with them. I will be going there on Saturday to view the car and express all these concerns. Thanks for the advice.

maybe put a deposit on it so they know you'll take the car and they will hold it for you.

I already put a deposit on it. Spoke with them today, all is good. They are holding the vehicle till I close. Phew! Very pleased with this dealership. They are fantastic people. I've also really enjoyed the experience with my Sales Associate.
