I have a set of Apex FL5s shipping shortly...the new configuration they added with 9.5 and 10.5. I'm going with Pirelli slicks, 265/645/18 and 285/645/18.
I'll report back after some track time in March and April. @ZM2, maybe I'll see you out there...first outing will likely be Audi Club at Summit March 18. |

Looks good with 245/295 - why didn't you go wider at the front ?
How's the balance with only wider 295 rears ? What suspension mods have done to yr LBB car ?

Has anyone tried what us M3 owners run? Nitto NT01 275 fronts on an 18”x10” or 10.5” rim ET25, 305 rears on 18”x11” or 10.5” et44.
ZM2 you’re welcome to stop by my house and try it on. I have an ulterior motive, I’m on the list for an M2 Competition...

Below is my latest list. It looks like 19s are the way to go for a staggered setup on the M2. I also added an interesting 18/19 mixed setup. 18x9.5 265/35 Square – RE-71R, R888R, PSC2, Trofeo R 275/35 Square – R7 (tight squeeze) 19x9.5 & 19x10.5 265/30 & 295/30 – R888R, Trofeo R 265/30 & 305/30 – PSC2 (no longer made in 295/30) 18x9.5 & 19x10.5 265/35/18 & 305/30/19 – RE-71R Last edited by ZM2; 03-09-2018 at 05:34 PM.. |

I went with the new Apex FL5, 9.5 et28 and 10.5 et40 instead. I may try the Nittos in those sizes when I burn through my current tires. That was a recommended fitment. |

I got superb, incredible even and long wear on the rear 305 tires in my M3: 8 weekends. Didn’t even take good care of them in the winter, which I heard helps. On the M3 the magical setup would be 305 square. Should be possible with correct offset, lowering, and camber.

I highly recommend you guys set this up. It doesn't take but 45 minutes and a floor jack and an impact to swap tires and wheels. Even a test fit in the driveway is a great start. |

Tires are like tennis shoes and racing helmets . A Nike size 10 may fit differently than a Reebok 10 than a Skechers 10. It's imperative that you try them on for size. One can make inferences from tire to tire when staying within the brand, because presumably they are all measured the same. However it's clear that tire measurements from say, hankook , aren't done the same as Goodyear or Bridgestone etc. The shape of the sidewall of the tire also makes a difference. I've actually fit a 285/35. Hankook RS3 on my 1M but the shape of the tire sidewall caused rubbing on the inside strut , not the width of the tread. Treadwear ratings ... despite the name the Uniform Tire Quality Grading, ( commonly abbreviated as UTQG) are another boondoggle. Many manufacturers have tweaked these ratings to either compete with other tires in a certain class or in some situations they have simply created a cheater tire for competition.. once again.. comparisons within a brand may be possible.. but assuming that a tire rated at 400 will last much longer than a different manufacturers 300 treadwear rating may lead to surprise. Tire Rack even has a web page dedicated to this. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=48& Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 03-09-2018 at 07:01 PM.. |

I have the wheels already, just need to order and mount the tires. I can report back in a few weeks once I get and test the system out. |

For now, I’m going the other way: 19x9.5 ET33 (with 5mm spacer) & 19x10.5 ET45 with 265/30 & 295/30 – Trofeo R Work has me busy this year, so no track time til April/May. Test fit in a few weeks and will report back. |

OK, I see what is going on. When I saw your post, I went out and measured my RC1's and the the tread width is indeed 10.5 and the section width is ~ 11.3. So I wasn't sure why your photo showed them to be more like 10. I then took my own photo and realized that because of how close I held the camera to the tire, the tape measure actually is off by about 1/2".
My apologies. |

They are mounted on the same wheels as I have eight 18x 10 wheels. In my garage with 4 wheels and tires of each brand stacked up next to each other that .5" x 4 = 2 inches taller for one stack. That was what set me off on finding out if it wasn't an optical illusion. But wait there is more. It's hard to see in 2-D photos but since you have the tires , look at the sidewall of the Maxxis. It's sort of rounded and the tread contact patch doesn't really make it to the edge. In comparison , the Bridgestone tire shoulder is squared off making it so that tread goes ALL the way to the edge of the tire. This is part of why I took the photos of them laying down next to each other. The width of tread that actually makes contact with the ground on the Maxxis is actually less due to the shape of the tire... indeed making the section width much greater than the tread. At any rate .. whether it's .5" wider or .75" wider contact patch per corner ... the clear thing is that you are getting a LOT more rubber to the ground with the Bridgestone R1 than the Maxxis. That's hella important when trying to avoid wheelspin at the rear and also with trying to avoid having the tire roll over on the front when cornering. The Maxxis have been hard for me to kill but when I do I will go to Bridgestone RE on one set for Autocross and driving to track and the BFG R1 as my track set. |
