The nissan plant is in mexico as well.
According to this maybe it doesnt matter much.

That's why I'm planning ED on an M2C next summer. Better get the experience while we can!
Yup do it!! I did the m2c ed this August. While it's true waiting for few months after dropping it off to pick it back up is excruciating you may not get the chance to whip a super fast super nimble small wheelbase bmw coupe on stelvio again. I did it on a warm Sunday afternoon and it's the best driving experience of my life so far
I guess I will be following your steps! Driving down to Italy via Stelvio, I can't wait!

If you're wondering if there is going to be a build quality difference, I recommend comparing a 2018 GTI to a 2018 Golf R. It is noticeable.

While I'm open to buying a G87 assembled in Mexico if the car is awesome, I am definitely gun shy about being an early adopter for new chassis/new plant/new country/new culture.

We shall see G80 vs C8 (vs Giulia Quadrifoglio vs P car/Boxster vs...) might be the debate for me after all.

That has a nice ring to it.

BMW is counting on the ignorance of its customers by building cars in these markets.

Why would I pay a premium for a German car that is manufactured in the 3rd world? Especially an ///M car.

Answer: I wouldn't. Obviously opinions vary

Yes, agreed, fair point. I ended up renting a 640i for the day but it's not the same as having YOUR car to tool around in!

It's a shame they couldn't find a way to build it in the US. That would be a win-win for the US market.

How about MD (Mexican Delivery), you can cruise the pristine highways of Central America while dodging bullets and getting high all at the same time.

The fact that they of would saved on import fees also, had they chosen a North American assembly plant location, shows that the Mexican deal was much more cheaper in labor and overhead..

Sorry if this has been covered before, but do we have a sense if the G87 will have a DCT option?

Disappointing to see more confirmation that the new M2 will be built in Mexico.Hopefully there will also be G87’s produced in Germany like BMW is doing with the G20.

It is very amusing to see the lack of objectivity and knowledge shown by some people

I work for an OEM with a global manufacturing footprint and the worst plants we have are in North America (US and CN), however, the plants from Mexico are consistently in the top 10, and weirdly enough, China plants are ranking higher in recent years.

This is not unique to specific OEMs, most see an improvement in terms of cost and quality, including suppliers.

I'll reserve my judgement on build quality until tangible info is out there, but I will say anecdotally, my mk7 gti (mexico buit) has far more creaks and rattles than my mk6 golf R ever did.
Also, all my cars have been purchased used via private sales (no tax in AZ) and only reason I bought the M2c new was for the ED experience, which was 100% worth it. Anyone who has the opportunity should take it.
