Thanks. I'll maybe pull the liner an check it out afterwards to see what it looks like to confirm.

My personal experience... I've driven my 2018 M2 in downpours, done a ton of hooning in the rain, and had my windows tinted 3 times and my amp has survived. However, that just my personal experience and doesn't mean I think the splash guard isn't helpful. There are plenty of people in the forums who have had blown amps due to water damage. The guard is on my list of things to order, just haven't gotten around to it yet. And, like the other person pointed out, if you have a M2C and your amp needs to be replaced, they will update your idrive firmware... So if you were previously using BM3 or another ECU tune, you won't be able to use it anymore. This is not an issue for regular M2, only M2C. |

This design by BMW is so stupid, just like the no dip stick and friction disc crank hub.

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/64226962293/ They are like dryer vents and open "out" to the wheel well. I have never heard a reason for them. Perhaps they are to allow air to escape from the cabin when the car door(s) are closed? To me it appears that the "splash" guard design is to stop any water from the vent from getting into the amp via the holes in the top of the amp. For a data point. My July 2019 M2C build did not have the splash guard. My M2, M2C and X4 did not have any amp issues related to window tinting. Last edited by omasou; 08-25-2020 at 11:16 AM.. |

Is the amp repair covered under the standard 4 year/50k mile warranty?
Going in for tints tomorrow and still have 1 year of warranty left so I'll do my best to protect the trunk but would love the peace of mind of having it covered.

Did the installation yesterday took about 1 hour in total. I did find the trim pieces to be a complete pain to remove due to the seal around the truck. I ended up removing the seal off the bat (very easy just pulls off) and did the install. Installing the seal back was pretty easy took about 15 minutes, pro tip though line up the line on the seal with the trunk latch as shown in the picture, and then work your way out from both sides placing the seal back.
The seal does have adhesive in it, personally I don't think it's a big deal it is very secure without the adhesive just due to how deep the seal grove is. But if you really want to do it properly maybe buy another seal (I assume it'll come with adhesive already) and replace it once you rip it out. |
