Coding Changes to FA

I just purchased the App and have the ODB module ordered. For coding instructions that I have seen that specify making changes to the FA, how is this done through the Bimmercode app?

So far, I can only view the demo mode on the app and it seems to display the different ECUs that are applicable to a vehicle, but not the FA information. Am I misunderstanding something?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, without the OBD connector, you can't see the modules for your car.

The demo mode is just that, a demo mode with a mock menu. Your iPad/iPhone is not connected to your car without the OBD.
Only when you connect the OBD (I'm guessing your vGate on order), you will be able to connect to your car and see the modules for your car.

Didnt see any responses to this..

Aug 29th latest update but didnt list what coding options were added..

EDIT:

Got some info:

Hi Esteban,
it was mainly an update to support vehicles with newer i-steps, so there are no new coding options.

Kind regards
Stephan

I get that, but my point was that I didn't see the modules organized in a way that would suggest the FA is listed (at least as such) for modification.

My VGate arrived yesterday and use in non-demo mode has born this out. I can see modules listed for head unit, instrument cluster, etc. but nothing (at least that is obvious to me) with respect to the FA parameters. I have instructions for changes necessary to enable Extended Bluetooth and Anti-Dazzle High Beams, but these mods both require changes to the FA.

Are you saying it does work for LCI cars? Or is that as yet unknown?
To my knowledge it's unknown in US/CAN 2er with 552 Adaptive LED. It all depends on which type of Bi-LED projector is installed. The reason it does not work on Pre-LCI US/CAN (Bi-Xenon) is due to the hardware. There is no shield physically installed to produce the dynamic shadow (Glare Free Zone) so all it's doing is moving the highest intensity zones of the full high beams right into other motorists eyes.

I got my V Gate today and went to town. Enabled my rear fog lights, lost the legal disclaimer, the 3 Amber LED side marker lights, seatbelt icon, chimes, gongs, buzzers and anything else that made a noise. Also added the mirror fold and unfold feature when locking and opening. Great app. Need to learn more!

Any way to disable the FTM system? I am concerned when tracking the car and adjusting tire pressure.

This also will not work on LCI cars if you don't have the Executive Package, which includes a different turn signal stalk (two buttons on the end) and other hardware.

wow...ok so it took me two f'n days to read this thread, but a lot of great info in here. Already ordered my vgate adapter - thanks to whomever posted the link for that one. A few clarifications/questions:

My car is in paint this week (according to dealer) and will arrive in 6 weeks. Has anyone successfully coded a MY18 LCI and what were you able to code?

It seems like the newer versions of this car are being produced with fewer options that can be coded (items/modules "grayed out"). Has anyone with a MY18 LCI found that they were NOT able to code something thata could be coded in a MY16/17?

For those of you using the expert mode, if asked to rate yourself on a 10 point scale in terms of IT/Tech savvy skills, where would you be? I realize this is very subjective, but just trying to get an idea of where I need to be in order to get into this side of the app.

thanks - cheers.

Dont fear the expert mode.

With the backup process available and some playing around with the app you will feel comfortable.

Make a lits of the parameters you want to code in expert and use the search built in to the app to find the parameters easier.

Once you get the hang of it you will see how straightforward it actually is

hey everyone, not sure if this has been covered. I'm probably getting a new iPhone soon and want to transfer all my backups to the new device. Will the data inherently be backed up when I backup the device contents in iTunes or will I need to start over?

How do you control the rear fog lights? Do they just come on with the regular lights?

An Apple Genius told me the phone needs to be backed up to iCloud and then everything is loaded back to the new phone. iTunes does not back up all the files and settings.

Two options, either install a Euro light switch with the rear fog light switch, or you can easily modify your stock one.
To modify, locate the two, unmarked buttons to the left side on stock switch. You want to remove the bottom one. Removal is a snap, wrap the tip of a knife (regular table knife) with painters tape. Simply insert gently the knife into the side of the lower button and with slight pressure it should pop out easily, doesn't need to be forced.
Once out, you will see three tabs, they are very small, two on one side one on the other. With an Xacto knife or razor remove each tab. Once each tab is off, reinstall button. The removal of the tabs allows this button to turn the fog lights on and off.
Once coded, the rear fog lights will turn on, and the rear fog light icon will appear on the dash when the button is switched.
The only difference between a Euro switch and the one you modify is the modified button will not be labeled. For the codes, do a search here under the M4 forums for enabling rear fog lights. There is a great thread with photos showing the above modification.
The coding will be done in expert mode, the first step is done in the front electrical moduale, this enables the dash icon. The second steps are done in the rear electrical moduale, again in expert mode. Remember to code the FEM before doing the second steps in REM which is coded separately. Voila, Euro rear fog lights. Very cool mod!

This is a great thread for the rear fog modification.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=877278

Our cars are a touch different. The vent is held on by different fasteners. Just pull. It's easier. I used a panel removal tool.

30 minute process if you're taking your time.

This is likely incorrect. iTunes can backup all app settings and HealthKit data that iCloud cannot. I?ve always used encrypted iTunes backups and never had issues with and app data.

I don't see Bimmercode listed in the iCloud backup in iOS...so unless its part of the overall iCloud phone backup...you would probably need to backup to iTunes on desktop/laptop

Thanks for the info TT1351, so just to clarify, you must install these switches and such for this functionality. It's not just code it in and done correct?

You can code it, but the only way to turn it on is via the modified button or Euro switch, so you must use one or the other,
