Interesting quote about the M2C (S55) power delivery, vs the Camaro SS 1LE (LT1).
Road and Track Article... BMW M2C vs Camaro SS 1LE “When road test editor Kyle Kinard and I try a couple of “roll races” on Thermal’s back straight, the muscle-car BMW smokes the fair-and-balanced Chevy every time. True, our M2 Comp tester has the seven-speed dualclutch gearbox, but that’s not why. Rather, it’s the tsunami of torque produced by the S55 straight-six, coupled with a weight advantage. Every few hundred feet, the BMW pulls out another car-length.” Hmm... |

I believe that. There are a lot of videos out there of Camaro loosing to Mustangs in roll races.
And this is why a lot of owners explore the remaining potential of their motors. One “easy” way to get the 1LT near 500lb ft and over 520hp is to throw a CAI, a cam and a tune at it. Still NA, and capable of making huge power and torque I know this is now talking about moded vs stock, but if I end up in a car with a 1LT that’s the direction I’ll be taking it. 7500 rpm springs and a cam. |

So was the Camaro 1LE. I guess it beats both Ford and BMW.
EDIT: Actually it was on Supercar 3s, which are not quite Sport Cup, but also not Super Sport. But either way, best Chassis in the bunch.

Totally right about the interior though. Something you’d expect from a sub-20k econobox |

But I would guess at best you can hope for Super Sport levels of grip. I’ve been impressed with how well Super Sports stick when up to 60-90 C. At the same time given how quick the Camaro is with them on, perhaps they are better? If you do try them let us know! Last edited by 5.M0NSTER; 02-25-2020 at 12:14 PM.. |

Also have a buddy who’s a multi-lap record holding TT driver telling me they’re the only tire he’ll use on his 1LE. Think I might give them a shot. Prior to that I was looking at running the S007A Bridgestone |

Then perhaps your buddy knows best!
I was debating between SC2 and S007 for my M2 this year. Kinda leaning toward SC2 because YOLO. I think I have enough shoulder left on my PSS for 2 days on the ring. I plan a total of 4 this year. And I’ll take all the help I can get! |

Recently I rented one of the newer miatas with the new engine on turo for a day. It has a very soft suspension from the factory but that's an easy fix in the aftermarket. The car was amazing. Only car that i can say is on par or better than the s2000. 2300 lbs, 181 hp 7500 redline with lots of midrange torque (something the s2k didnt have) and driving dynamic was pure bliss. Transmission is 90% of the s2000 which is a high praise and overall i enjoyed that car very much. Will get one in the future for sure.

I've been shopping these two cars specifically. The Supra is indeed faster all the way to 150mph+ - it's as fast as the M4 Comp DCT for that matter.
However, this is what I prefer about the M2C: Interior, DCT and manual options. Engines are honestly close, the B58 does 27-30+ mpg easy on highway, which is remarkable. |

I use to love the E46 M3 and the classics. Still do, but I got a M2C and it is a blast. For me personally, I have accepted the direction automakers are going and realized we cannot live in the past. With that mindset, I have thoroughly enjoyed the newer BMWs and very looking forward to get into the G80 M3. It looks like you have jumped full into electric cars, which is great for you. I am not quite there yet.

Enjoyed reading this thread.
As a current S2000 owner and new M2C owner, we all know there are cars out there that can gain faster lap times. I have seen much slower cars than the S2000 run faster times on track than high HP Vettes and Camaros. Driver skill and confidence makes all the difference. I will agree that finding a platform that won't break the bank, offers agility around corners, and can take some punishment is sometimes hard to find. Miatas, Integras, Civics, E36/E46, Mustangs, and S2000s seem to fit that bill for many. I've driven and been in many HP cars on track including a 911 and Viper, but majority of my HPDE is in a S2000. I'm biased but will say it's the best track car experience you'll have with a manual transmission with a high revving engine. I don't believe the M2C is a fully dedicated track car for most, but it checks several boxes for many of us.That's why I bought it over faster but less expensive performance cars. M2/M2C are truly cool cars with great looks and performance to boot regardless of potential failures and shortcomings. The best of both worlds is to own a M car and something mentioned above for track duty.

In my eye both these cars offer the same perfomance. I love the M2C and its practicality over the GR Supra but the cost of modifying the M2C steered me away.
Cost of vehicle spec to spec puts the M2C $6,000 above the GR Supra, not the issue though as the M branding and practicality is worth that amount. It's the damn fact there is a hub crank issue. With consideration of an upgraded crank hub installed, we are now $10,000 apart. Keep in mind my goal was always to have a 600+ whp car, reason for needing the hub crank issue fixed. Now let's talk about the S55 motor vs B58, both great motors. The S55 would cost more due to it having an extra turbo meaning two of everything to modify now. For me the total cost of the car after modifying it was much more economical for the results I was seeking. |
