Question What are you doing for an armrest?

I am REALLY going to miss creature comforts such as Comfort Access, Digital Car Key, heated steering wheel, Top View Cameras, and the HUD. But I think I may have a really hard time getting over NOT having an armrest.

As you can see in this video (at 10:03), the vlogger mentions how many times he's mistakenly engaged iDrive when going into 6th...

This would drive me crazy. I don't plan on doing much long-distance driving but it still makes me wonder how inconvenient this might end up being.

I've heard of people fold up a towel and place it on top of the center console but that seems kinda janky.

What is everyone's thought on this?

I don't miss the armrest at all ( I have DCT )
I absolutely do not regret my choice if there is one thing I want to change is the exhaust

I don't see all the fuss. I fold the armrest up in my 1M and leave it that way. Prefer it without it, but maybe that's just me?
Concerning that review, I've spent enough time in a 6MT M2C and can't see how you could accidentally have that problem...unless you have really long arms? I dismissed it as it seemed like looking for faults.
I'm also not bothered about the rest of the features you mention with the exception of Comfort Access, that one would have been nice. At the end of the day I'm sure they will all be forgotten once behind the wheel!

I don't think you want a M2CS if the arm rest is a deal breaker...

I should have mentioned my M2 CS will be manual so this might be a moot point on a DCT.

Hopefully there will be no fuss on my end either. Never folded up the armrest in my F80 to know if that would work for me.

I really enjoy new tech in cars but I understand why they did not bring those options to a lightweight model. Comfort Access and Top View camera (fear of curbing my wheels) are the 2 options I'll really miss the most. I get that this isn't the car to want unnecessary features on.

Oh, it's certainly not a dealbreaker. Just bringing to light something I'm sure will (but hopefully won't) bother me.

I'd be willing to bet there will be aftermarket stuff for this, however some reviewers with 6MT M2C's say they hit the armrest on shifting. I'd guess if it becomes an issue you could possibly have it relocated.

My E46 M3 (with the CSL center console) wasn't an issue without the armrest. This car will likely not be an issue either. Would it be nice to have? = Sure! But, not too concerned not having it.

I definitely do, and want nothing more than to get rid of my armrest. Happy to swap center consoles with any CS owners who want an armrest, I'll even get it re-stitched/upholstered in red and alcantara for you

I doubt there will be aftermarket versions *with* armrests, most of the existing aftermarket stuff has been trying to get rid of the armrest as opposed to spruce it up:
- Lightweight Performance: https://www.gmpperformance.com/produ...center-console
- M235iR: https://www.apmotorsport.co.uk/produ...centre-console

And based on those, they won't be cheap (though it's not the 3k for the M2CS pieces). Might be easier to retrofit the existing M2 parts (the main pieces should come to < $1000, plus some new upholstery), since I'm pretty sure the center console parts are the same shape.

I had a manual M2 and the armrest was always in the way. DCT M2C and I don't care. Manual M2CS, so losing the armrest is a good thing. With a level forearm, you hit the armrest shifting.

I test drove an M3cs last week and must have unconsciously went to rest my arm on the arm rest at least a half dozen times....

Many thanks for the feedback guys. Very helpful!

The shame of asking for an armrest is upon me. I don't deserve the M2 CS. Lol

I don't need it. I keep my hands on the wheel. And no more trash can.

I have a standard centre console complete with blue-stitched armrest going spare?

The one in the car is constantly in the up position so I can put my hand on the gear lever (6MT) without having to stick my elbow out to clear the armrest. Had I ordered the DCT it might not have got in the way.

Have you considered the Bently Flying Spur as a purchase better aligned with your preferences? Likely to be much more exclusive too...

Agree 100%, in the old days, there would be one hand on the steering wheel and the other firmly planted on the gear shifter

Bentley .... - I literally laughed out loud

I went from an M3 to an M3CS and had no issues with the lack of the arm rest. You will be surprised how quick its importance fades as you own the car. I was very worried about this but ended up being better in my opinion. Only down fall is if you have a lot of things to store.

Too funny. Slightly out of my price range.

I'll also be coming from an F80 so good to hear.

I'll say it, I miss having the armrest, especially when my left arm has one. I like to be symmetrical when I drive with both arms on an armrest and it just feels weird with my other arm just hanging there. Probably just need to get used to it though.

I was concerned at first but it actually works perfect for me. If you're a taller individual with where you can have the seat height, the center console is at a comfortable position for your arm to rest on straight to the stick. Granted its not padded but the angle my arm is on it, its not an issue as my elbow isn't digging down or anything.

Arm rest issue

So who's working on a fix/part to fix this one and only weakness that every reviewer continues to point out?
