Steering wheel options

Given the recurrent complaints on the steering wheel what options are there out there? For those of you that have the cars and thus the steering wheels in hand what are your thoughts? Anyone swapped steering wheels yet?

Thanks

From an OEM standpoint, There's the mp v1, mp v2, race wheel (with the display), and the CS wheel.

I see most builds with the mp v2 even though some of our most respected forum members think it is not that great due to a sharp angle on the leather piece on the top and the lack of heat (none other than the stock have heat by the way)

I have the mp v2 as well. If it didn't come with my car I would have invested 5-700 dollars elsewhere before changing out the steering wheel. The stock one is great.

I've had MPv2 on my OG M2 and on Comp.
The CS wheel is absolutely perfect for me, it's thinner than the v2MP wheel and feels amazing.

I bought this steering wheel from Extreme Powerhouse (XPH). Fit and finish looks to be real nice. I just don't like alcantara steering wheels unless I have my racing gloves on. I'm still waiting for my car to come in so I haven't installed it yet.

Like some of the other posters here I'm looking forward to the CS wheel. I'll wait till I've used it a while before deciding to swap it out - in which case I'd most likely get the digital wheel as I had one for many years on my F80 and loved it.

I love the M2 CS Steering wheel, the 12 oclock is much more discreet over the usual leathered stripe.

I know it's probably personal preference but I actually prefer to have a slightly thicker steering wheel opposed to a super thin one.

Great feedback. I am so glad to hear that so many are loving the thick steering wheel as is. Will definitely give it a good try.

I used to love the thick wheel on my old z4 m coupe! I am looking forward to the thick one in the CS!

I'm thinking about doing the digital wheel and "saving" the CS wheel so the alcantara holds up over years of ownership. Also gives me the closest thing to heads up for track days.

I had the V2 on my OG M2. Really hated the ridge on the top of the wheel. It was very annoying when driving with the left hand only.
I've also had the custom formed wheels. Those can also be annoying because there is only one comfortable hand position. Unfortunately you only find out after using it.

Yea, the wheel is harder than the stock wheel. But, I'm used to that anyway from all my previous cars. The stock wheel felt a bit "plush". The hand grooves are designed in to the wheel. It's probably suited a bit more for someone with slightly larger hands than mine. I haven't really driven the car much since I've gotten it (waiting for my PPF appointment date... would hate to have a rock chip before then). Just straight from the dealer to my house and maybe around the neighborhood.

Great wheel! Is the steering wheel heating option available with the M2CS?

Steering wheel heating is optional on M2 and M2C (BMW code 248). Not available for M2 CS.

Neither the M2 M Performance steering wheel nor the M2 CS steering wheel (stock version or optional alcantara version (BMW code 70A)) is heat wired = no steering wheel heating possible.

Then you're gonna love it.

Also the M2 M Performance steering wheel is 'meaty'. And personally I like it that way. When I wrapped my hands around the M2 CS alcantara wheel, thickness felt very similar.

Agreed. The M-Perf V2 wheel is very thick, and has lots of aggressive grip features IMO. I find you use a different grip on the V2 vs regular wheels. With the M-Sport wheel you kind of use your whole palm/fingers to grip around it. With the V2 it's shaped so your finger tips dig in on the back side and feels like you have a bit finer control. I really like it, and just purchased another genuine V2.

I also just made a video comparing the stock wheel, V2 wheel, and a "replica V2 wheel."

I had the M Performance digital/alcantara wheel on the F80 and loved it. Does anyone know if the new Alcantara CS OEM wheels is thicker than the m Performance digital wheel? See picture.

Just looking at these images tells me the M2CS s. wheel is far chunkier.

Are you going to change the s. wheel on your M2CS? If so please let me know how you go.

I'm first going to see how the standard alcantara goes. I'm more worried for my wife as she has small hands. If that doesn't work, we'll go for the M Performance OLED wheel and I'll make sure I show pics.

Yeah, that's what concerns me too. Chunky steering wheel plus driving gloves .... not so sure how they'll go together.

Be glad to hear your take on it.

Merry Christmas and happy driving when she arrives
