How tyres make a difference: M2 with Michelin PS4 VS PSS

Enjoy the read: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/bmw/m...term-update-4/

1.44 secs faster with the new Pilot Sport 4S VS the factory Pilot Super Sport at Willow Springs "Streets" 1.6 mile race track! The new tyre makes the car ride better according to Motor Trend.

Of course.

Which is exactly why I have been saying that the continental and the OE PSS are both 6 year old designs compared to the new tire.

All this hand wringing about which of the two when both are second fiddle to the new tire.

Not only are these the OE tire on a few thousand M2 , they are on about four to five times as many M3/M4 and probably several other BMW models. And yeah , the next best thing has been out for awhile.

Ever seen Walmart or Best Buy blow out the last of a cel phone? The next big thing is coming. Both continental and Michelin dumped their end model stock via BMW

The performance leap in a generation of a street tire is a huge thing.

Consider the following tires version 1 and2

hankook rs-3
Falken Azenis
Dunlop Direzza / star spec
Pilot Sport 1 to pilot Sport 2

Etc

One of the things I also don’t like about the continentals is the sidewall design of the tire.It doesn’t look good, especially compared to the Michelin PSS,which has a great design.Michelin always seems to design awesome looking performance tires.

Cannot wait to get some 285 PS4S rears when the summer wheels go back on next spring. The stock Contis lasted about 7k miles. I'm glad they didn't survive more than one season. They hampered my car's ability to perform at a high level.

i actually like the side wall checkerflag design but i've had someone look at it and mention they thought the rubber was badly cracked.

either way i'll be switching to PS4S as soon as my rears have more wear.

At an elite level?

For example, due to stickier rubber, I'm able to avoid power sliding out of turn 4 (Darien St.) and consequently (and theoretically) taking out a bus stop. Instead, I'm able to clip that apex, hook up, and avoid a long term prison sentence....in Mexico of course.

Both terms work.

It was just funny for me hearing the description and term applied to a vehicle.

I hear it all the time watching sports, especially basketball. 'So and so ' is playing at a high level, or " That team is playing at a high level" .

It's so often applied to people that it was just funny hearing you apply it to the car (as an inanimate object ) as opposed to applying
it to the person in the situation (for example,
you didn't say that the tires kept YOU from performing at a high level).

For whatever reason it just cracked me up.

I need to put the car (players) in a better position to succeed.

I'm definitely getting PS4s for my M235 when they become available in my size.

I am perplexed as to why a DCT M2 is only running 12.9@106-107mph. Those might be the slowest times and mphs I've seen so far. MT, like every other mag, corrects their times for conditions. Most mags are showing 12.6-12.8 at 110-112mph in the 1/4 mile for these cars, typically the DCT showing the higher trap speed. It's the trap speed that's a bit alarming. That's no better than an M235 6mt.

There is more to life than 1320 feet.

Regardless the M2 is a entirely different animal when driven after a m235/240i.

My car sports the Michelin PS4S since a few months.

That tire deserves the word "sucker". And take that as a compliment.
